Gardena is located on the northernmost end of Contra Costa County and is bordered by Walnut Creek to the north, Antioch to the east, Oakland to the south and west, and Concord to the north-west. The first Europeans to visit what is now Gardena were Spanish traders in 1769 CE who named it San José de la Cañada de los Arroyos. It was part of Rancho Los Nietos until 1868 when it was sold to John Sutter. The city's current name comes from Hotel Panama which was built in 1915 on land that once housed a convent known as "El Carmen" or "The Carmel". According to the United States Census Bureau, Gardena has a total area of , all of it land. As of 2010 census data, there were 362 people living in Gardena City limits (excluding unincorporated areas). Of these residents 95% lived within walking distance of their job or home; 99% reported spending no less than one hour daily outside work or school. In addition almost all workers are employed within one mile of their place of employment - primarily within grocery stores (98%) and local service businesses (94%). Residents also use transportation nearby most often for shopping trips (93%), errands(86%), personal medical treatments(85%), etc., with only brief trips away for visits to friends or family members totaling 5 minutes duration over 10 years ago!

Gardena, California is a city located in the Kern County of California. The population was 28,871 at the 2010 census. Gardena was founded in 1887 by J.P. Morgan and other investors as a citrus grower's town on land that now includes Cathedral City and north Orange County. In 1911, the city limits were expanded to include what is now south Orange County and parts of east Kern County. Gardena became an incorporated community in 1933. The downtown area consists of several blocks of large Victorian-style buildings built between 1920 and 1925 for commercial and civic uses including the old Municipal Building which still stands as a reminder of early gardena's stature as a commercial center. The history of Gardena goes back to 1887 when J.P. Morgan and his partners bought 1,000 acres (500 ha) near present day Cathedral City from José Romero de la Cruz for $1 million dollars - making it one of the most expensive acquisitions in Californian history at that time! At first they confined themselves to raising oranges, but soon realized that they had found something even more valuable - an ideal location for development with beautiful surroundings that would make it easy for them to trade their crops with surrounding counties! They named their new town Gardena after Jose's home state of New Mexico where he had been born just two years earlier! It wasn't long before other settlers followed suit - within months there were already some 150 residents living in tents or shacks around what is today central business district (CBD). By 1912, Gardena had become an official city with its own fire department and library! One such early resident was Captain Ayer who served as Deputy Mayor from 1912 until 1914 when he resigned due to health problems; later he moved his family permanently to Gardena so they could live close by while he pursued his medical career back East! It wasn't long before local businesses began welcoming visitors from all over Southern California - traders came to see how much orange production we were able to achieve under the new regime of Japanese rule during World War II! Business then grew steadily throughout the postwar years despite difficult times caused by post-World War II recession; by 1957, our per capita GDP had reached $41,985!!! During this time also our population exploded reaching 4,500+ people!! This growth continued into the 1960s as jobs moved away from agriculture towards manufacturing; however during this period Gardens infrastructure suffered significant damage resulting in many loss jobs and families abandoning their homes altogether; even today many streets are lined with abandoned homes dating back to those hard times………..In spite of these challenges though no one ever gave up on Gardena – slowly but surely through determination andacity has replaced adversity as our mainstay!!!Today we enjoy a rich cultural heritage rooted in Mexican influence dating back over 100 years including major art galleries like Soto Gallery & Museum which reopened fulltime after a 2 year closure due to arson suspected linked to vandals !!!! Outside Of Town There Are Many parks And Recreation Facilities Available Including Tennis Courts With Views Of Mt Wilson !!!!!!!!!!!!! All In All We Enjoy A Diversity Of Culture That Cannot Be Found Elsewhere In So Many Places……………………………………….
Gardena was founded in 1887 by H.M. Doheny and his brother, J.N. Doheny. The brothers were the first white men to settle in what is now Gardena after a journey of exploration that took them over 1,000 miles from San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. They named their new town Gardena for the adjacent grove of trees that they found growing along the Santa Fe Trail.
