From the early 1800s until the 1940s, Garden Grove was a center of scopes and telescope production in California. By 1875, telescopes had become more sophisticated, and manufacturers such as Meade, Herschel, and Krieger began producing high-quality telescopes for use by astronomers. In 1907, Garden Grove became home to Southern California's first observatory when the Mount Wilson Observatory was built on what is now SR 527. This observatory played an important role in helping scientists learn about stars and planets. From then on, Garden Grove became known as the "Hub of Astronomy."
Garden Grove is a city in San Diego County, California. The population was 66,814 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Diego-ijuana metropolitan area. Garden Grove was founded on November 10, 1887 by George Beaumont and his wife Clarissa Beaumont as a small community on land they had bought from Rancho Santa Anita rancher Cosme de la Hoz. The name "Garden Grove" first appeared in a deed dated February 12, 1888 from Mrs. Rufus Seward to Girdletree & Son, merchants and real estate developers who had purchased the rancho from Don José de la Hoz Ibarra and his brothers Carlos y José for $10,000. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the junction of two major transportation routes: Route 66 and Interstate 5. In 1951, Garden Grove became an incorporated city under the provisions of Proposition 16 which granted cities such as Anaheim and Irvine their own police departments without having to share revenues with local law enforcement agencies. The city's growth led to multiple annexation efforts by other municipalities over the years; Garden Grove has always been able to maintain its independent status. In 1984, Mayor Richard Jaffe appointed Dick Fenton as City Manager after he was hired by then-Mayor Jerry Sanders following Sanders' resignation following allegations of corruption within the City Council system. Under Fenton's leadership, Garden Grove experienced significant growth in both its residential areas (particularly south central) and its commercial districts (particularly downtown). In 2006, Fenton was succeeded by Norm Kelly who also served as acting mayor during that year's mayoral election which failed to produce a candidate who could replace outgoing Mayor Dick Fenton upon his retirement effective December 31st that year after 24 years on the job

Garden Grove, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 153,827 as of the 2010 census. Garden Grove is the largest city in Orange County by population and second-largest city by area. The original settlement at Garden Grove was established on November 7, 1879, when four men from Anaheim founded the town of Garden Grove on what is now Yorba Linda Boulevard. The first post office in Garden Grove was opened on December 5th, 1881. The name of the town was changed to Garden Grove on October 17th 1909 and then to Orange (city) on January 3rd 1912. In 1933, it became part of Los Angeles County and remains an independent municipality today with its own government and budgeting process. The City of Irvine merged into Garden Grove in 1984 following a vote by the City Council which included all five municipalities within Orange County – Irvine, Newport Beach, Laguna Niguel, Angels Camp/Doheny Canyon Road/Foothill Ranch/Cypress Lake Village – as well as neighboring cities such as Seal Beach and Huntington Beach. At that time they were each Component Municipality within their own county government but are now considered part of the Greater Los Angeles Area under one government umbrella. In 1990–1991 voters approved Measure W which designated much of downtown Irvine as open space for public use including a large park currently known informally as "The Park". This land had been earmarked for development since World War II when it served as military training ground for various branches of service including Coast Guard Station Dana Point and Naval Air Station Miramar. After more than 20 years planning there is finally construction underway to restore this iconic structure once occupied by both civic organizations and pleasure boats used during OC Weekly's early days back in the mid-1950s until those days got lost in history due to gentrification!
