Garden Grove is located in the Inland Empire of Los Angeles County, and it is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The population of Garden Grove was 76,711 as of 2010. It has a rich history dating back to 1851, when two farmers named George and John Dorrance founded the town on what is now Government Street in what is now Downtown Garden Grove. The first store opened in 1851 and was called the Post Office. The town grew rapidly and by 1860, it had a population of over 100 people. The town's growth stopped after 1861 because of a prohibition law that was passed by Congress. This law made it illegal for any person to carry or use any gun without a license from one of the state's nine counties. In 1872, Garden Grove incorporated as a city under State Law No. 527 and became one of the first cities in California to be governed by an elected mayor and council instead of via gubernatorial appointment or election alone. The city's growth continued until 1906 when it was destroyed by fire during an urban renewal project which also destroyed much of downtown Hollywood. However, Garden Grove rebuilt quickly and soon emerged as one of Southern California's most thriving cities with over 100 businesses operating at full capacity within 10 years following its rebuilding effort; this gave rise to its nickname "The City on the Hill". A new ordinance went into effect effective January 1st 1907 that banned smoking indoors even though many homes still had outdoor smokers because there were no indoor places where people could smoke while living in their homes or going about their daily lives (the only exception being restaurants). As a result, most people started using cars to go outside instead which led to increased pollution levels inside buildings because larger vehicles emitted more air than smaller ones did outdoors due to their size advantage (this trend continues today with large SUVs emitting more air than small sedans do inside). Additionally, many brick-and-mortar businesses closed down during this time because they could not compete with new car companies that had been born during this period such as Kaiser Aluminum Company and Ford Motors company who both started production lines in nearby West Covina during this time frame

The first Europeans to visit Garden Grove were traders and missionaries from Spain in 1795. They named the village "Mendoza" after Don José Mendoza y Ortega, Viceroy of Peru. In 1821, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort near what is now Garden Grove. He named his new settlement after himself and his son-in-law Jedediah Smith (1776-1845), who had accompanied him on his explorations in California. The town was incorporated as a city on February 14, 1896. It became an unincorporated community on October 15 of that year when it seceded from Riverside County to form its own separate government. On November 5, 1969, during the Vietnam War era, there was an unauthorized night raid by U.S military forces on the City Hall building located at 8th Street and Imperial Avenue which resulted in extensive property damage and loss of life including that of then Mayor Irwin Jacobs (1927-1973). Although no arrests were made or charges brought against any individuals involved in this event - many questions remain about exactly what happened that night - Garden Grove residents continue to demand answers today more than 50 years later!

One key player during this time was Mayor Harry Ahern who had come from nearby Buena Park and started working for Southern California Edison while still a student at UCLA! He would eventually become president of SCE from 1941-1945! Today many aspects that make Garden Grove stand out are its large number of parks including Doheny Park (home to The Doheny Aquarium) and Lake Arrowhead which offer plenty of activities for children as well as its growing wine industry which has made it an important agricultural center in Orange County! Additionally, the city is home to numerous cultural attractions such as Garden Grove Museum Of Art and Hollywood Hills Cemetery where you can find graves dating back to pioneer times!
