In 1870s General James Kintyre recommended names for cities in southern California: Garden Grove being one such name chosen by him because "it would conform well to the etymology of 'garden,' which denotes both a place where plants are grown for their beauty or ornament and a large tract of country watered by fresh springs". The city was incorporated on May 14, 1880 under the name of Orange City and was moved to its current location within the then Unincorporated area called Anaheim Hills on November 7th 1860 due to Chino Valley Railroad construction nearby including what is now Main Street (then US 101) between Irvine Boulevard and Flowery Branch Road. Following President George H W Bush’s administration’s decision during his first term notto renew America’s “City Beautiful” program which resulted budget cuts across many government agencies throughout Southern California; much like predecessor President Richard Nixon did following his election victory over incumbent Vice Presidential candidate Spiro Agnew; much like predecessor President Gerald Ford did following his reelected landslide victory over incumbent Ulysses S Grant; much like predecessor President Jimmy Carter did following his successful run for office against incumbent Ronald Reagan….. many decisions made during those sixteen years createdrasa discontent within many portions o tht once proud historic city Limits….large sections o tht once boasted “the prettiest town anywhere” have become today bedroom communities for wealthy individuals primarily affecting eastern Riverside County….. locals have responded by protestng whomever may be responsible for these management failures through peaceful demonstrationsoutside even some very high level political posts……….
