Garden Grove, California was founded in 1893 by George A. Smith and named for the gardenias that flourished there then. The first gun barrels were made here in 1894. Gun barrel production increased rapidly during World War I because of the need for munitions produced in the warring countries. Garden Grove became a major center for arms production after the 1918 armistice between America and Great Britain. After World War II, gun barrel production declined as manufacturing shifted to other countries, but recommenced in the 1970s as a result of increasing demand from law enforcement agencies throughout North America. In 1993, Garden Grove became one of only two cities in California to be designated a "gun city" by then Governor Pete Wilson. The designation has helped further grow gun barrel production in Garden Grove, which now employs over 200 people making barrels and parts for handguns, rifles and shotguns.

Garden Grove is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 508 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area and is situated on the eastern edge of Anaheim Hills. The first European settlers of Garden Grove were prospectors who located what is now Garden Grove in 1847. There was no town or village established until 1872 when trustees from Anaheim built a post office and gristmill on what is now Adams Avenue. In 1876, two brothers by the name of Brown developed a small agricultural community near present-day Westwood Boulevard and South Temple Street known as Garden Grove Heights. In 1907, San Francisco earthquake destroyed nearly all of downtown Los Angeles, including Garden Grove; however, many people continued to live there for their businesses and residences until after the quake. The city's first water system was installed in 1909 with storage tanks located at Adam's Avenue and Nile Boulevard. From 1911 to 1912, new streets were constructed in addition toAdams Avenue which connected various parts of downtown including Fairview Heights eastward to North Hollywood (nowdebugging). In 1917, Standard Oil Company donated land for a large refinery that would produce gasoline for local automobiles and trucks; it became one of Southern California's largest companies before being acquired by Chevron Corporation in 1984. In 1922–23 an extensive renovation project took place at the old refinery which added new buildings such as a chemical plant and engineering shops while also preserving older structures such as the original refinery building itself which stood until 1991 when it was demolished to make way for redevelopment activities adjacent to it. A major development occurred around 1960 when then Mayor Sam Yudkin approved plans by developers Harry Black & Sons Incorporated for an upscale shopping center called "The Oaks". The development attracted high-end shoppers from throughout Southern California who soon began using Garden Grove as their primary address because they could walk to most stores within minutes' distance regardless of weather conditions outside (it still remains one of Southern California's busiest shopping areas today despite having lost much retail traffic over time due largely to suburbanization). On January 12th 1990 City Manager Don Ivesen announced that construction on "The Oaks" had started although there had been no groundbreaking since November 1989 due primarily to funding shortages caused by newly enacted state budget cuts known as "the DAVE." Ivesen explained that because Highway 101 bypassed Garden Grove – reducing its access – few if any residents actually lived within walking distance of either store even though both establishments housed more than 1,000 employees during their peak tenure years! Despite this lack of resident proximity or investment into Gardens Groove commerce over the years – throughVacation Rentals(now Marriott) owning both stores shortly before they closed - developments like "The Oaks" continue up until this day becoming some sort OfOasisForLocals virtually unheard OfoutsideOfLosAngelesCity limits todaydespite having lost almost all retail traffic due largelyTo SUBURBANIZATION
