In 1969, Galt began housing a small community of farmers and their families in an area that would later be known as the "Bungalow Belt." The Bungalow Belt was a rural region located between San Francisco and Sacramento. It was a fertile agricultural area that produced fruits, vegetables, grains, livestock, and timber. The town's first toolmaker was Mr. Tipper who manufactured tools from cedar planks. Eventually othersmiths were born to help Mr. Tipper continue his business. One of these men was Hiram Wigglesworth who started making bicycles and held the first Bicycle shop in Galt back in 1887. In 1896, Mrs. Jane Addams opened her first grocery store in Galt which soon became the most successful business in town. With so many businesses opening up throughout the early 1900s, it is no wonder that by 1915 Galt had a population of over 500 people! During World War II, Galt played host to two huge military bases: Ft Benning and Terminal Island Naval Air Station (now called McDonough Air Force Base). As both military locations grew larger with more troops stationed there, demand for tools grew even greater! In 1946 Toolmakers' Union Local 692 organized themselves into what is now CPTToolmakers Local 521! This effort helped increase production at local tool factories while also providing support to each other through collective bargaining negotiations! Over time this system has grown into what we know today as trade unions within our industry!
Galt is a small town in the Mono County, California, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Galt is located on Hwy 99 north of Big Bear Lake. The name Galt comes from the Spanish word "galde" which means farmyard or pasture land. The first post office in Galt was established in 1854. A store and tavern were built there in 1879 by Wm. Bicknell. In 1897, Jno. Pritchard opened a general store and hardware complex called the Pritchard Store & Ranching Co., which still operates as a commercial business today. In 1912, George Capps ran for sheriff against incumbent Hiram Brown and won with over 50% of the vote; he served two terms until his death in 1920. In 1922, an irrigation canal was built through Galt to supply water to Big Bear Lake from Mono Springs reservoir; this allowed for large-scale development around the town center and increased agricultural production along the lake's shores. Today, many businesses operate within walking distance of each other within Galt's historic downtown core – making it one of the most walkable small towns in California

Galt, California is a small town in Fresno County, California. It was founded by Allan Galt in 1879 as a post office and county seat for Kern County. The name comes from the Yaqui word "gallo," meaning place of deer or antelope. Galt has been an agricultural center since the early 1800s and had a population of 2,500 people in 2000. Today, Galt is a small community with a population of fewer than 100 people, most of whom are residents of nearby Primm or Atascadero. Galt's history began on December 21st, 1879 when Allan Galt set up his post office in the old adobe government building which he built himself out of logs and sandbags. The name “GALT” would stay until 1984 when it was changed to “Fresno” after then-Governor George De la Costa became re-elected to his third term as Governor of California. The first postmaster general was John Waddell who served from 1886-1893; Jens Rasmussen who served from 1893-1901; Prentice Haines who served from 1901-1904; and Ruben Gomez who served from 1904-1911. The first store in town opened on Main Street on October 12th, 1905 by Doreen Sayers (daughter of General Store Owner C A Sayers). soon thereafter many other businesses followed suit opening up such as the Lumbermens Hall (now closed), Mrs Smith’s Bakery (closed), Golden Nugget Saloon & Casino (closed), the First National Bank (now closed) and numerous smaller stores that dotted the main street during its early years including: Bakers Shop(closed now replaced by Super 8 Motel), Meat Market(still open today at 1111 N Main Street),Arthur Godfrey Builder & Repair Co.(now closed down at 624 Folsom Avenue), Mrs Putnam’s Candy Shoppe(later renamed Mrs Kapp’s Candy Shop) and Joanne Doherty Leather Goods Outlet( later renamed simply Jane Doe.) It wasn't until 1916 that GALT acquired their own Post Office Building which stands to this day just east of Main Street across from where they currently offer gift certificates for water softener service! In 1924 they also began offering express mail service commutingsters to/from Fresno via Roybal Road! In 1935 Mr Charles Murchison donated land adjoining what is now Griggs Park for use as an Agricultural Experiment Station located adjacent to what is now UC Berkeley's Lawrence Livermore Lab! From 1937 through 1957 local citizens funded construction costs associated with campus expansion plans which included new housing development along East Campus Drive including: Newmark House Annex(later renamed Regency Village)(opened 1947); Northwood Towers(opened 1949); Midtown Towers(opened 1951); Glenview House Annex(opened 1953); Southpark Towers[now demolished](opened 1955). All buildings were completed except Northwood Towers which remain standing but unused today.. In 1957 Community Services District No 1 purchased all remaining assets within ECD lands becoming responsible for all services within the community including public restrooms, fire stations etc while still keeping overall control over operations! In 1976 ECD merged into City Services District No 1 creating one municipality with jurisdiction over all services within village limits!!! Today there are very few permanent residents living within boundaries due largely to several factors such as lack of opportunities for job growth outside adjacent cities or rural areas etc., zoning changes resulting in loss/reduction in property values often times limiting access to shopping malls/stores near schools etc., large number of refugees streaming into our area seeking work opportunities….. however some have started back home creating their own little villages scattered throughout Northern Fresno County…..
In 1848, the Galt family settled in what is now Galt, California. The first store was opened in 1849 by Elias Galt and his brother-in-law John Bemis. The land where Galt's Store now stands was donated by Zephyr Crenshaw in 1851. In 1850, the town of Galt was founded with a population of just eight people. By 1860, there were twenty-two people living in Galt. In 1863, gold was discovered near the town of Monterrey and mining activity began to take off in Galt. In 1865, the first post office was established in GALT and it remained open until 1896 when it moved to Salinas due to population growth there. From 1865 until 1867, an LDS chapel was built on Monterey Creek along with a school for boys and girls which served as the nucleus for what would become today's high school (GALT High School). By 1870, many businesses had been established within the limits of present day GALT including a general store, bakery/baking business, grain elevator and lumberyard. By 1880 there were over fifty businesses operating within town limits alone! In 1889–90 a new water system was installed which included pumping stations at several locations within town: one on Topaz Creek north of downtown; another on Pinto Creek west side; and another on San Marcos River east side (the latter being used today as part of city water services). This new system allowed for increased irrigation activities within town limits which led to an increase in taxable value between 1889 and 1890 from $4201 to $10621! Additionally, various churches were built during this time including First Baptist Church (1889), Methodist Episcopal Church (1893), Catholic Cathedral (1895) and Presbyterian Church (1900). The mission society Fraternal Order of Eagles also started operations here around this time with their first lodge meeting taking place on July 1st 1890 at Masonic Hall! With such rapid growth throughout these years – all while still maintaining tight community control – it's no wonder that by 1902 incorporation had been formally granted to what is now known as "GALT Municipality" with a population of over seventy five individuals!
