Fullerton, California is a city in southern Orange County, California. The population was 139,511 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean and has been a port since 1877. It was founded by John Fullerton and named for his father-in-law, George E. Fuller. Fullerton became an incorporated city in 1904. The first use of fullerton as a name for anything other than land near the mouth of the River Yorba Linda took place in 1847 when Captain John Sutter camped there on his way to found what would become Sacramento County. He called it "Foula Point" because he thought thatPoint Sur—the easternmost point on San Francisco Bay—looked like a foul odor from high up on its cape. In 1849, part of Rancho Santa Ana deFullerton was given to Captain Robert Haines by Governor Manuel Nieto for $1,500USD . This donation marked beginning of Fullerton's annexation into Orange County. In 1851, when Don José Cámpora bought some land northeast of town from Abelardo Baca and began expanding Rancho Santa Ana deFullerton to include much of what is now Orange County, he chose Fullerton as his new town site because it had a gentle slope making it easier to build homes and develop commercial property than nearby Vallejo or Menlo Park which were more hilly and difficult to access. The first buildings in Fullerton were built along State Street (now First Street) between Wasserstrom Avenue and Third Street; these buildings still stand today within walking distance of each other (although they are no longer used). Don José's son Juan Pico moved his family from Mexico City into their new home in fullerton after purchasing 5 acres (2 ha) north of State Streets intersection with Grove Avenue in 1850 which included what is now North Park Drive/State College Boulevard - this location would later become part of Palmdale neighborhoods such as La Brea Canyonview Trails Preserve . Some early businesses based out of Don José's house included Jervis & Larkin who operated a grocery store off Second Street from 1865 until 1922; Gismundo’s Custom Houseetiers from 1865 until 1870; Anthony’s Grocery Store from 1870 until 1893; Ponderosa Woolen Mills opened around 1880 - this mill closed several years later due to competition from larger mills in Redding and Emeryville ;[and] Stonington Funeral Home started operating out back at 111 South Main Street between 1886–87.] After years during which only residential areas were developed one important business center opened up soon after – TheFullerian Hotel – also known as “The Depot” – became quite popular due its comfortable armchairs, fireplaces, game rooms etc.. Japanese immigrants who had arrived during World War II brought their own customs with them including dishes like okonomiyaki – ultimately leading to namesake restaurant Okonomi being established just across the street from The Depot soon afterwards! In 1945 experimental radar testing was conducted at Shoreline Airport causing local businesses owners to close their doors temporarily due fear for their customers' safety… however all seemed normal again until about 7pm one night when military aircraft flew low over airport conducting tests without stopping for refueling… suddenly all hell broke loose with gunfire coming down range so quickly some people thought it was live ammo! As research revealed no planes ever hit the ground or any civilians were harmed did this event cause any public outcry? Nofullerians actually received awards or recognition for having cleaned up airport following test flights! However similar tests continued uneventually without incident throughout WWII…. [This event led author Lynn Cameron writing about "Olympic Games: A History" (University Press Of Los Angeles), pgs 146ff.]] It wasn't until 1951 that fullerton annexed into Anaheim Municipal District #2 becoming Anaheim proper rather then just another bedroom community within Anaheim Municipal District #1]. One significant influence upon early fullertonian development came through Drillington Oil Field owned by oil magnate Edwin Jenssen whose refinery lay adjacent to state Route 1 east of town limits – this field produced many jobs right off the bat thanks largely theretofore unknown oil refineries dotting central coast region supplying Kern Valley Refineries with gasoline both before and during WWI ]. Unfortunately due mainly to Roy Dye interference jenssen sold most if not all his assets including driller rights back To The Shell company circa 1970[but note Roy DYE died in office 1977]. [See sidebar "Roy DYE: Introduction" below…] Another major playerpioneer may have been banker James Fenton who financed much Initial Development Services activity relatedto real estate development including constructing powerhouse dam across riverbed associatedwith then undeveloped Harbor Colony Naval Shipyard next door starting productionof water mains & pipes back 1944!] During WWII residents formed numerous committees dealing primarily wit hroad construction projects such as widening State Road 2A connecting downtown fullerto Garden Grove eventually leading tho government housing project known variouslyas Highland Park Village (), Ocean View Heights (), Inglewood East () [] while also undertakingvarious fundraising drives such as chipping away at Dobson Dam reservoir]} Finally after over 50 years nearly every structure currently standing within city limitswas erected prior t o 1978 following passageof Metropolitan Water District v FULLERTON et al case [- see sidebar "THE CITY OF FULLERTON: ITS BACKGROUND AND ORIGINS"] Despite recent setbacks experienced by the city since then Comprehensive Plan Revision process initiatedin 2007 has resultedinevitably increased population density particularly along coastal areas creating increasingly challenging infrastructure needs especially considering current global economic conditions}. Today Fullerville boasts top quality educational institutions like Polytechnic University OC []], Chapman University CA[]], UC Riverside[]], Miramar Beach High School[]], Laguna Hills High School[]], Irvine Valley College CA[]]), among others []".

This land would later become known as Wetherbee Ranch which would eventually produce over 1 million acres (4 million m2) of agricultural land across 27 counties in southern California. By 1908, there were just five buildings within the current downtown core that housed any kind of business or industry other than farming or ranching. Thanks largely to World War II efforts by the United States government – including Operation Varsity – Fullerton became an important center for military production throughout Southern California while also becoming home to many local businesses that benefited from wartime largesse. After1945 full-time civilian employment dwindled as many employers moved their operations out east during the post-war recession; however, some new businesses did form such as Home Depot which opened its first store in 1923 right next door to Wetherbee Ranch’s original barn). These days it’s hard not find something related to war or production going on within easy walking distance either inside or outside our bustling downtown core! In 1948 full-time service jobs finally resumed with more people coming back into town after leaving rural areas due to affluence brought about by post-war suburban development expansions; however at this time Main Street felt much more like an industrial park than anything else! The following year saw another major milestone when City Hall was built which served as both an administrative headquarters for all aspects of city government as well as housing for employees until Measure A gave rise to today’s Civic Center Complex located just north side mainline Expressway 10 near I-5 Exit 241A! Many famous residents have made their mark here such as author J D Salinger who wrote his first novel here while living at 8951 San Clemente Boulevard; actor Robert Wagner who played Drago opposite Julie Andrews in popular stage productions at nearby Rialto Theatre; basketball coach Rick Majerus who led USC Trojans teams through three NCAA tournament appearances during his tenure here between 1982&1988; singer Julio Iglesias whose hit song “It’s All Over Now Baby Blue” was written specifically about life & death experiences taking place right hereabouts during WWII…the list goes on & on! On October 15, 1881, Fullerton was founded as a small town in Orange County, California. It became an incorporated city on July 1, 1893. The population of Fullerton peaked at around ninety thousand in 1920 and then began to decline as the area's rubber production declined.
