Fullerton is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 117,746 as of 2010. It is the most populous city in the county and the second most populous city in California behind Los Angeles. Founded on October 17, 1879 by Captain George Fullerton and his brother-in-law Joshua Chamberlain as a mining town named for José Cámpora Fullerton y Costilla, it became an independent municipality on December 5, 1912. The City of Fullerton annexed Rancho Niguel on January 1, 1916. In 1925–1927 full block party races were held in Fullerton; all candidates received over 50% of the vote regardless of party affiliation. On May 3rd 1927 at a meeting organized by Mayor Manuel Gomez to consider annexation into Anaheim proper from neighboring Buena Park due to its high population density (full blocks) and lack of streetcar access), the motion to annex passed with a record majority (51-4). The annexation was approved and took effect on July 1st 1927. On November 4th 1928 Mayor Gomez proposed that full block party races be held again in order to determine whether or not Fullerton should become an unincorporated part of Anaheim proper; this proposal also passed with a majority (53-2). This action set off what would eventually be known as "the Gomez race" which lasted for many years until it finally ended when then City Manager Donny Young announced in 1978 that he would no longer allow any more full block party races because they were becoming increasingly corrupt and disruptive. On May 2nd 1994 Mayor Jerry Sanders addressed a crowd that had gathered near City Hall to protest against Measure B which would have raised property values by 20%. He called for calm before announcing that he will not seek reelection next year due to health concerns related to full block voting being used as an election ploy throughout his tenure. Afterward several citizens started throwing rocks at him while others cheered. As he left the stage protesters began pelting him with eggs and water bottles (). Sanders returned two days later but continued having trouble walking without assistance so firefighters helped him onto ambulances and drove him back home after giving him multiple speeches about how important democracy is and howFullerton should continue protesting even if it means getting beaten up by protestors during his absence (. . .) The commercial district located along I-5 between State Boulevard and Utopia Road became one of Southern California's first Hispanic neighborhoods when Mexican immigrants who had come through Yumanza Station settled there in the late 19th century following gold discoveries nearby including Tulare County's Goldfield Minefields National Monument (now known as FULLERTON GALLERY OF NATURAL HISTORY). Mexican families operated small businesses here until World War II when American soldiers arrived seeking labor on military bases throughout Southern California; some Mexicans formed gangs such as La Raza who terrorized local populations until federal law enforcement forces deported them beginning in 1942 under President Franklin D Roosevelt's executive order 9066 which discouraged racial discrimination against aliens living within our borders according: “All persons who are now resident within this state because they may hereafter become residents thereof through naturalization or migration must leave this state immediately”[1]. Most Mexicoologists believe that large numbers of these deportees never returned home although their descendants still live primarily among Angelenos today although their assimilation has been less successful than hoped given their history both hereabouts AND abroad where many have assimilated fully into mainstream American culture [2]. In recent years there have been sporadic efforts made starting with mayoral candidate Mike Antonovich's run for office earlier this year targeting Latino voters but no major breakthroughs have yet been achieved despite repeated door knocking operations (& $10000 donations from various local businesses) . . . Some people feel like incorporation would finally give Latinos voice here whereas others feel like increasing diversity & inclusion will only leadto more division rather than integration [] There are currently plans underway by developers led by real estate magnate GeofryeFullerton Jr., son John Geofrye Fullerton III & wife Lisa Murphyto build what could eventually be one million square feet (~240 thousand sq ft) of retail space adjacent to Interstate 5 Exit 123A/Rancho Niguel Shopping Center & adjacent parking garage] A study released last year estimated that if annexation were allowed new development would increase residential housing stock concentration within 500 feet (~150 m) radius around downtown Fullerton from 54% present to 73%[3], creating significant congestion issues especially during peak hours resultingin increased rates for public transportation[] One possible solution being considered is expanding light rail service into downtown Fullerton beyond current terminus at State Boulevard which currently offers limited service due mainly to funding restraints set forth under Proposition 65.]

The name Fullerton comes from the Latin word "fulgur," meaning "a shower of snow." The first people to live in what is now Fullerton were the Miwok Indians. They hunted and gathered food near what is now downtown Fullerton. In 1821, Spanish traders founded a mission here known as San Fernando de la Paloma (later Rancho Santa Margarita), which served as a store and trading post for goods coming down the Isthmus of Panama. In 1827, American settlers named John Sutter established his rancho at Point Conception on Mission Bayou in present-day Anaheim Hills. He issued land grants to his friends and family, some of whom built homes and raised crops around their new place of residence. One settler named George Jones bought sixty acres (250 hectares) east of Fullerton proper in 1846 from Los Angeles patriarch James Irvine for $5 per acre ($48 per km²). Jones renamed it Jonesland after himself and developed it into an agricultural center with stores, schools, churches and residences until he sold part of it to Anglo Pacific Railroad co-founder Thomas Edison in 1901 for $2 million Eddie Mays starred in several full-length feature films shot here while growing up between 1957-1959; notably "The Godfather" (1974), "The Sopranos" (1999) and "A Beautiful Mind" (2001).
