Fullerton is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 147,731 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Orange County and the second-most populous city in Southern California after Los Angeles. A post office called Sutterville was established in 1875, and remained in operation until 1893. In 1897, Jesse Ventura Park was created when part of Fullerton's core became open land following annexation by Anaheim from Buena Park. The area around South Park Avenue and East First Street had been developed as residential areas for workers who built new freeways such as Interstate 5 during the early years of the 20th century. Ventura Boulevard (now SR 63) was developed concurrently with that area; it runs parallel to East First Street through much of today's downtown Fullerton before connecting with I-5 near Westlake Village east of Lake McClure. The name "Ventura Boulevard" originated from this connection between SR 93 (now US 101) southbound and TR 95 eastbound along Ventura Blvd; both Routes were later renamed Highway 35 once full freeway construction began.( map ) On May 24th 1919 Fullerton Industrial Aeronautics Corporation organized under the Santa Ana Manufacturing Company Act to build a small airfield on what is now North Main Street just north of Villa Park Road( map ). On October 15th 1929 Wernher von Braun founded American space exploration company Von Braun Aviation Incorporated at what is now Van Nuys Airport( map ) which would become famous for launching America's first manned mission into orbit – Apollo 11 – over Earth on July 16th 1969! On January 17th 1951 Waterfront Development Authority applied for a permit to construct a wharf on then present day Harbor Boulevard adjacent to what is now City Hall Yard( map ). This application would become known as Project Bayou due to its similarity to then President Dwight D Eisenhower's proposal for New Orleans' Bayou Bridge project which never happened!Fullerton annexed neighboring cities: Huntington Beach on February 14th 1952, Garden Grove on March 10th 1954

Marshall, who served as Commanding General of the United States Army in World War II. Fuller's father had also been born in Fullerton and his mother grew up there.Fullerton became a city on January 1, 1909. Businesses began to grow rapidly in Fullerton during the early years of cityhood, with industries including meatpacking, agriculture, printing and publishing, railroad construction and more. The growth ofFullerton led to increased development around it – including the creation of full-service municipalities such as West Hills (1914), Garden Grove (1918) and Norwalk (1921). In 1951, Fullerton annexed part of Soquel Heights east of Pico Boulevard for economic reasons; this annexation created what is now known as East Norwalk.
