In 1878, a group of businessmen bought all of the land east of what is now downtown Fullerton for $30 per acre. They named their new settlement Fullerton because of this purchase. The first post office was established inFullerton on March 6, 1879. By 1890, Fullerton had a population of over 50 people and it became an incorporated town on January 1st, 1893. On July 20th, 1907, the City Council voted to annex neighbouring Buena Park with a population of just under 10,000 people and renamed it Fullerton proper! This annexation would make Fullerton one of the most populous cities in Orange County by 1910! In 1906b Majority leader James Irvine sponsored Assembly Bill No. 4 which proposed that Disneyland open its doors to children as young as five years old! This bill passed through both chambers but was vetoed by Governor John Cigarette because he felt that Disney's plantation style amusement park would compete unfairly with other nearby towns such as Anaheim and Corona del Mar that were already thriving businesses! However passage through the state legislature finally made Disneyland open to visitors on November 15th 1926!! In 1966, the city was renamed for former president George Washington Carver. Fullerton is located on the East Coast of Southern California, bordered by Orange County to the north and west; Kern County to the south; and Imperial County to the east. The City of Fullerton covers 2 square miles (5 km2). According to USGS data, full-time residents numbered 323 at the 2010 census, down from 467 at 2000 Census but more than triple its population when it joined Riverside/San Bernardino Counties as one unified municipality. The earliest evidence of human activity in what is now Fullerton dates back 6500 years ago when Homo erectus fossils were found near present day Anaheim Hills. Evidence suggests that this early human community dwelt around or within 15 miles (24 km) of modern day Fullerton when it was discovered by Spanish explorers on October 7th, 1769.. Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was built nearby during this time period with support from Spain’s King Ferdinand VII as part of their efforts to convert all Native Americans living east of Baja California into Christianity.. After Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821 most people fled southward towards Los Angeles until full control over southern California was granted to United States by Mexican President Juarez on August 12th 1850 following Ygnacio Obregón’s successful campaign against US forces while under General Zachary Taylor.. A small portion of original Mexican settlers stayed behind including José Francisco Valdez who formed a rancho called Rancho Santa Ana de la Gomera just northwest of today’s downtown Fullerton which prospered until1885 when gold fever struck causing many Mexicans to flee for their lives;; Today much remains unchanged from those days such as Valdez’s Rancho Santa Ana de la Gomera which borders Canoga Park Boulevard on one side and Disneyland on another
Fullerton is a city in the San Bernardino Mountains region of Southern California, United States. The population was 177,619 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. The full name for Fullerton is "Fremont Township". The township was organized on June 14, 1881 from parts of Los Angeles County and Orange County. A post office called Fremont was established in 1887, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1922. In 1885, a small community known as "Napa" grew up around Fullerton's railroad depot. However, when the last train to Orange County left Napa on December 12th, 1886 there were only a few people living there and no industry had been developed yet. In 1894 Napoleon Johns founded City Oil & Gas at what is now corner of Foothill Boulevard and Interstate 605 in Fullerton; he started production with 39 barrels per day (bpd). By 1907 City Oil & Gas employed 100 workers - more than any other oil company then operating in Southern California. John sold his interest to Standard Oil of New Jersey in 1914 but continued to operate City Oil & Gas until his death in 1951ased by an Explosion that occurred at their facility while they were processing natural gas under pressure into pipeline fuel
