It is located on the eastern edge of Anaheim County and is part of the Anaheim– Fullerton–Tustin Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name " Fullerton" comes from Anglo-Spanish words meaning "full" and "orenzo." The area that would become Fullerton was first settled by Anglos in 1868 as Rancho Buena Vista. In 1888, a group of businessmen led by Antonio Palou bought some land east of Anaheim Hills for $1 million to create what would become Fullerton.Palou named his new town after himself, full of fruit trees and vegetables to export around the world. Today'sFullerton began as just a small agricultural community with about 60 residents when it incorporated as a city in 1959. In 1963, Mayor Robert Saito created Fullerton's first park - Playland Park - which still exists today and offers baseball fields, playgrounds, an amphitheater and other facility for public use today as well as full access to all City Hall buildings including City Manager’s Office and Law Enforcement Headquarters. Other early parks such as Waverly Park were also developed during this time period including Muchacho Recreation Center which was opened in 1974 just north of downtown Fullerton on much older land than where it stands today near East Oliver Street/Carson Boulevard. For years the downtown core consisted only of warehouses dating back to the late 1800s along Second Street between Euclid Avenue and Figueroa Street; most notably Jardine & Sons Warehouse (now known as Sears) used to occupy entire block bounded by First Street on one side (now occupied by ground level parking lot), Second Street on the other side (now occupied by Honda dealership), Fourth Avenue across from City Hall building (currently used for storage) – making DowntownFulleraton arguably one of largest urban areas east of San Francisco without any major shopping center or commercial district within its boundaries! In recent decades Downtown has undergone significant renovation with several large mixed-use projects coming online such as: Main Street Live!, Casino Square Live! – home to several restaurants and bars which anchor an active nightlife scene now extending into adjacent neighborhoods throughout Downtown; Southpark Place –formerly anchored by Sam’s Club before being converted into office space; Atherton Place –serving primarily light industrial uses; Northgate Plaza Shopping Center redevelopment project now includes over 100 stores across 5 anchors including Macy’s/ Marshall’s/ TJX/ rackets Mecca Outfitters etc.; Arts District -home to several galleries featuring eclectic American art often paired with live music performances at various venues throughout day & evening; University Village -an affiliate campus of UC Irvine providing resources for students living off-campusian university housing developments adjacent streetside containing numerous restaurants & bars various types wagons variety store fronts
On July 14, 1882, Fullerton became the city of Anaheim when it was annexed from Buena Park. It was incorporated as a municipality on December 12, 1888. On January 4, 1907, Fullerton became the county seat of Orange County.
