It is the second most populous city in Orange County after Santa Ana and it is also one of the most diverse cities in Southern California. In 1821, full control of Los Angeles County was given to Mexico by President James K. Polk due to American efforts to stop Mexican colonization of Northern California (the so-called Alta California). As a result,Fullerton became an unincorporated community within Pomona Township on February 12th 1823 at the site where today's Doheny Park lies. A post office called Fullerton opened on July 5th 1827 and remained open until 1914 when it was transferred to Anaheim Hills. In 1849, placer gold was discovered near present day Fullerton along with other nearby towns such as Irvine and Huntington Beach which helped spur settlement growth throughout what would become Southern California during this time period. On October 15th 1850, General Antonio López de Santa Ana granted land for full town formation here under Indian ownership with wide streets parallel to missions Bayou Road/Pine Knob Canyon Road which still run through downtown today including State Street between Mission Bayou Boulevard and Pine Knob Canyon Boulevard just east of City Hall Plaza; frontage roads ran from San Pedro Mesa northward through Valencia Oaks into Yorba Linda while Arroyo Seco River extended northwest into Irvine Creek east of City Hall Plaza; all original land grant boundaries remain today except for some small pieces annexed by other municipalities over time e.g., Westminster Heights annexation in 1959 followed by Garden Grove annexation in 1966; Hacienda Heights annexation on January 1st 1990 followed by Lemon Grove annexation on November 10th 2006.) This early growth ledFullerton Mayor Cesar Chavez Sr.'s administration during the late 1960s began work on what would become our current Main Street - then known as Third Street - complete with paving, streetlights and widened sidewalks – all seen as essential improvements at that time for bringing new residents Downtown rather than driving them out across Pasadena Avenue or La Cañada Flintridge Boulevard into neighbouring communities like Reseda or Woodland Hills.. In 1970 two adjacent parcels located west of Vinegar Hill Drive were included within Fullerton limits making full incorporation possible following yearslong negotiations between Fulleron officials and then-mayor Avila (Dino). Fullerton, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 154,651 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Bernardino County after Riverside. The first permanent inhabitants of what became Fullerton were two groups of Native Americans, the Luiseño and Atsimuni Indians. They came from central Mexico to this area in 1821-22 on a rancho that Juan Bautista Alvarado granted to Manuel Nieto. The town began as an agricultural community near present-day Orange Avenue and Euclid Street. From 1860 until 1896 it was part of Southern California's original Mexican land grant called Rancho Seco de la Costa del Mariposa (Seco Coast Ranches). In 1892 Fullerton elected its first mayor, James Humes; he served for five years before dying suddenly in office. In 1906 Mayor George Buttner organized a city charter referendum which resulted in full incorporation as Fullerton on January 1, 1907 with a population of 397 residents despite only 12 businesses having been licensed to do business within the city limits! In 1917 Fullerton unsuccessfully waged war against neighboring Riverside over water rights issues; but soon afterwards developed into one of Southern California's largest industrial cities with heavy industry including breweries, automobiles, munitions plants and many other businesses typical of those times. It also gained notoriety for its annual "Riverside Auto Show" which drew thousands of motorists from all over Southern California each year during the height of World War I automobile production. On July 14th 1954 Jerry Lewis filmed his first feature length movie "A League Of Their Own" at what is now Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems Company Facility #1 on Orangery Road just east of Interstate 10 where today you can find their facilities manufacturing stealth aircrafts! On October 15th 1957 actor/director/producer Buddy Ebsen shot his last movie "Great Expectations" at Cinecolor Cinemas located at 8333 S Bronson Ave Way near De Anza Boulevard! That same year Fullerton hosted both the Western Regional Finals OF THE TENNIS TOURNAMENT AND THE FIRST ANNUAL GAS STATION EVENT sponsored by Chevron which drew several thousand peoplefaxing in from all over Southern California! During these early years much important community events took place such as the election held on November 3rd 1928 between incumbent Mayor Buttner’s challenger Samuel Goldwyn and then City Manager Waddell Earle’s running mate Harry Goodlett Jr., who would later serve as mayor from 1951-1957 inclusive

The area that is now Fullerton was originally part of Pasadena County and then San Bernardino County.
