Fullerton is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 93,631 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southeastern edge of the San Gabriel Valley north of Los Angeles and south of Pasadena. In 1887, Fullerton became one of the cities annexed by Los Angeles. A year later, it became an official county seat of Orange County. In 1926, both counties were merged into one and Fullerton has remained its separate city ever since. The history of Fullerton can be traced back to 1847 when Jesse Hinton founded what is now known as Hinton's Store on Third Street in fullerton City Centre. The store was closed in 1865 but reopened as Fuller's grocery store in 1867. By 1870s fullerton had become a thriving commercial center with over 20 businesses and 2 churches serving the community. In 1886, Mayor John Sutter agreed to annex part of Santa Clara Valley which would include parts of Fullerton and Buena Park; this annexation helped fill up some much needed development space for Los Angeles after years of planning by Mayor George Wickersham Sr.. Because there were no other municipalities contiguous to either side of San Gabriel River (the border between Los Angeles County and Orange County),Fullerites had only limited access to goods available closer to their homes or stores within their own city limits- something that they quickly began complaining about to authorities back home.. In 1889, during his first term as mayoralty, Sutter negotiated an agreement with then-Governor Hiram Johnson which allowed for annexation byFullerites if they approved a new municipal charter that guaranteed broad industrial rights including a right to build industries larger than 10 acres (4 hectares). However because most Fullerite citizens opposed any further annexation byLos Angeles due to fears that additional traffic congestion would arise from too many large factories opening up near their city limits without proper consideration for public interest%,little progress was made until1893 when newly elected Mayor Charles Goodyear successfully pushed through Measure M which granted industrial rights along the riverbed eastward from downtown LASA boundaries; this action helped spur heavy development eastward along Interstate 5 corridor throughoutmuch OF Anaheim Hills and North Hollywood area today!
