Bullets have been an integral part of history in Fresno, California for centuries. The city was first settled by the Native Americans in the early 1800s and soon began to develop as a major town. Fresno has been inhabited by various cultures and civilizations since before what is now California was recorded as part of Mexico. When Spanish explorers arrived in 1769, they found the Tarahumara living among the mountains to the south and discovered an ancient American culture that lived on Modoc Island. In 1836, General Antonio Mejia founded Rancho del Oroño near present-day Fresno with land grants from Spain to Mariano Castro. In 1852, Don José Altamirano bought some of Altamirano's land east of Fresno from Castro for $5 per acre. Mexican settlers began arriving in large numbers after gold was discovered in nearby Placerita Creek in 1859 and established numerous towns across western San Joaquin County. The first post office in Fresno opened on October 21, 1860. By 1870, most of what is now Fresno had been developed as a result of mining operations and other economic interests by Anglo-Americans who called the area "The Gold Mines of California". The discovery of oil shale along North Coast Highway 50 northwest of downtown Fresno in 1906 led to rapid growth in petroleum production and services associated with its exploration and exploitation through joint ventures with Kern Oil Company and Shell Petroleum Company beginning in 1907 until World War II when it fell within wartime production restrictions under United States control. Fresno experienced significant growth during World War II due to our participation as a major port for munitions shipping out into Pearl Harbor Bay for use by the Pacific Fleet's aircraft carriers and bombers then flying back home across America airspace to join up with their allies against Japan; however we lost much industrial infrastructure including many factories that closed during WWII because there were no suitable replacements available outside Los Angeles or Oakland which had similar economies at that time (Shane). Today following decades during which housing prices have increased faster than wages while joblessness remains high%, particular focus has shifted away from traditional manufacturing towards service sector businesses such as healthcare/healthcare technology companies/ tech startups etc., notwithstanding some tentative efforts towards returning manufacturing back to the city center given its current circumstances (Dixon). As described above, over time various local cultures have interacted with each other resulting in unique identities being formed both physically and culturally within this diverse region; one example would be how certain groups typically dress differently based upon their location within a town or village whereas others may not even maintain such clothes any longer given their changing surroundings; nonetheless such distinctiveness does not mean that these places are without history or importance – indeed many aspects dating back centuries are still enjoyed today by locals including dishes like churros!
