The museum was founded in 1984 by retired Air Force Colonel Dick Kieft. The red dot sight industry began in the early 1970s with companies such as Ruger, Smith & Wesson, and Colt Manufacturing Corporation producing models specific to shooting at targets near water droplets or other small objects. As technology improved, manufacturers started to produce fixed-focus red dot sights for rifles and pistols that could be mounted on any firearm. In 1984, Colonel Dick Kieft founded the Red Dot Sight History Museum in order to preserve and exhibit America's red dot sights. The museum has a variety of exhibits including firearms, ammunition, tools used in target shooting, photographs of past shooters at various events, and history associated with the red dot sight industry. The museum also offers classes for children interested in learning about firearms and target shooting. Since its founding, the Red Dot Sight History Museum has preserved over 6500 devices from across America's rifle and pistol industries totaling more than 3600 different items. He built a cottage on his property along with several other settlers until they realized that they would need to build more if they wanted their community to grow. In 1909, Fenton donated additional land to the city for development and Fountain Valley became one of its first neighborhoods. The early years were difficult for Fountain Valley because it lacked proper transportation connections and most residents relied on horse-drawn carriages or bicycles to get around town. Fountain Valley is a small town in the San Bernardino Mountains of Inland Empire County, California. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is located in the unincorporated community of Fountain Valley and is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area. The name "Fountain Valley" was derived from two Indian trails that passed through it: one led north to Sycamore Canyon and another south to Fontana. The first people to live in what is now Fountain Valley were Anglo-Saxon farmers who arrived during the 18th century. They named their new settlement after a nearby stream, Fountain Creek. By 1852, however, there were only about 150 people living in Fountain Valley. The town was platted by James Hahnel on March 24, 1853. A post office called Fountain Valley was established in 1857, and remained open until it closed on December 15, 1912. In 1865, Charles Manson met his wife Abigail Folger at a party at her parents' house in Fountain Valley while they were both working as farmhands on nearby farms. Manson would later become famous for his role in the Tate-LaBianca murders which took place near Redlands during February 1969 (the same month that President Richard Nixon visited Palm Springs). In 1903, Abigail Folger's brother John married Edith Pauline Gardner; their daughter Alice would be the last person killed by her father before he committed suicide three years later. In 1915–16 a group of settlers known as "The Forty Thieves" moved into what is now Orange County and began operations smuggling goods across Southern California Mountain ranges into Mexico under false pretenses including being prospectors looking for gold deposits inside Baja California Sur. One member of this group was Harry Whittingstall who would eventually become owner and operator of The Aquarium Theatre chain along with other business ventures including restaurant ownership throughout Southern California starting with designs for an indoor water park called Galaxy Beach Resort & Casino built adjacent to Whitingstall's home at 6100 Glendale Drive West – originally planned to be called Disneyland but ultimately renamed Tomorrowland after Walt Disney's death). During World War II several hundred local men formed Camp Pendleton here as part of Operation Neptune's Spear which aimed to disrupt Japanese military installations within southern California mountains leading up to Corregidor Island where American forces were expecting an amphibious landing operation codenamed Operation UWI (which never happened). Fountain Valley is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metropolitan area. The first European to visit Fountain Valley was José Antonio de la Paz y Costilla on July 16, 1824 while exploring southern California for mining purposes. A post office called Fountain Valley was established in 1853 and remained in operation until 1907. In 1912, construction began on what would become the world's largest irrigation system using canals and pipes to supply water to farms in central San Bernardino County. The project was completed two years later and became known as "the Water Revolution". In 1915, Warner Bros. Studios opened its new headquarters in nearby West Covina and used the local airport for movie filming; this spurred increased development around the airport which led to the creation of a new business district including Fountain Valley called "The Flyover Area". In 1923, then-Governor Alton Blythe appointed Robert E. Peary as Governor of California after he discovered Karaoke Lake near Yosemite National Park; Peary dedicated the lake to Fountain Valley in memory of his friend and mentor John Muir who had also explored that park during his lifetime. Nine years later (1929), Orange County consolidated with San Bernardino County and Fountain Valley became incorporated into that county as well; it has since been one of its most vibrant communities with many high-technology businesses located within easy access from its downtown area. On November 25, 2006, voters passed a measure making Fountainside an independent city charter pursuant to Proposition 227 which exempted towns or cities outside of Los Angeles City from being subject to annexation byLA if they voted no on proposition 227 (a measure allowing city councils within LA annexed municipalities). This provided much needed autonomy for Fountainside following annexation by LA which had taken away much financial resources from other cities within san bernardino county
