Fountain Valley, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 30,031 at the 2010 census. Fountain Valley is home to the University of Southern California and various technology companies. In 1915, two brothers named Harry and Robert Fountain founded the Fountain Valley Glass Company in what is now known as the Fountain Valley District of Santa Ana. The company produced jade and other glass products until it dissolved in 1932. In 1928, Harry Fountain founded the Harry fountain company which manufactured clocks and watches. Over time, Harry's son David acquired many of his father's assets including the Harry fountain company. David continued to operate the business until his death in 1984. In 1987, Mark Hurd assumed control of the family-owned businesses when their father passed away. After Mark’s death in 2001, daughter Kimberly Hurd took over operations of both companies along with her sister Linda Kincaid who also worked for them as Vice President since 1992. In 2009 Las Vegas Sands Corporation purchased all of Ronald Lauder’s interest in Hurd Companies (the parent company of both businesses). As part of this transaction, Kimberly Hurd became president and CEO of both firms together with her sister Linda Kincaid as Deputy CEO until 2011 when she left to become head coach at USC Trojans football program.. The name "Fountain Valley" comes from the nearby Big Muddy River. In 1887, John Doman made an irrigation canal through much of this area and named it after his ancestral home in Virginia. The first post office was established in Fountain Valley on December 10, 1892. A number of churches have been built in Fountain Valley over the years including Christ Church (1912), First Baptist (1895), Holy Cross Catholic Parish (1929), and Our Lady of Peace Assisted Living Facility (2006). In 1984, a movie studio was built by MGM called Val-Anschutz Studios which operated until 1998 when it was sold to Sony Pictures Entertainment. This left Fountain Valley with only two businesses remaining: Anschutz Productions and Paramount Theatres which closed their doors in 2006 and 2008 respectively. In early 2009, Warner Bros., one of Hollywood's largest studios announced plans to build a new studio complex adjacent to Paramount Theatre that would eventually house 14 screens and will create 1,000 jobs; however no decisions had been made as of late 2013 about whether or not the project would proceed given competition from other film projects across Kern County such as University City Mall's planned development known as Inglewood mall which also includes movie theaters adjacent to commercial propertiesincluding Target Store locationsand Chatsworth Mall's planned development known as Northridge mall which will includemovie theaters adjacent to professional properties including Sears Tower FountainValley has always been an agricultural center due to its proximity to big water systems like the Big Muddy River and Mono Lake giving farmers access to markets all around the United States for their crops while also being able to produce goods for export back home The town started off as a small farming community with just a few hundred people living there during World War II However following World War II many people decided they wanted more than just subsistence living so they started buying land east of Bakersfield This led to what is now known as "the '50s Boom" where larger families began moving into Fountain Valley beginning in earnest around 1950 During this time many factories were built throughout Kern County including Sun Oil Refinery(now Chevron) Kaiser Aluminum Works(now Alcoa) Simons Aircraft Co.(now GE Aviation) among others things helped spur economic growth for the town although today there are very few factories left operating within easy reach of residents

It lies about 25 miles (40 km) east of downtown Los Angeles and 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Claremont. The first known inhabitants of Fountain Valley were Native Americans who lived near what is now Huntington Park. The area was first settled by Europeans in 1853 when they arrived on horseback from San Bernardino County to look for land to ranch. A post office called Fountain was established in 1856, and the name was changed to Fountain Valley in 1907 because it resembled a spring that had been discovered nearby. In 1923, the United States Geological Survey created an official map of California which included both southernmost Orange County and northernmost Riverside County as well as Fountain Valley. The western half of Fountain Valley became part of Riverside County while the eastern half remained within Orange County. In 1927, following the construction of Interstate 15, most residents moved away from the valley due to its close proximity to downtown Los Angeles and other major cities in Southern California. However, some continue to live in Fountain Valley today due to its strong economy and easy access to education and shopping opportunities outside of Los Angeles
