From 1928-1935, an airstrip served as an airport for general aviation use at nearby Redlands Municipal Airport (now San Bernardino International Airport). In 1954, two schools opened: one serving children from kindergarten through eighth grade () and one serving ninth through twelfth grades (). Gilmore as a small community on the southern edge of what is now Riverside County. It began as a farming town with citrus orchards and about 20 homes. In 1923 it became an incorporated city with a population of 100 people. In 1990 it annexed La Jolla and its adjacent communities to form one large city with a population of over 300,000 people today. The economy of Fountain Valley is based on agriculture and manufacturing, especially in the production of agricultural products such as tomatoes, apples, almonds, watermelons, grapefruit and other fruit trees, along with construction materials such as asphalt and metal products.
