In 1925, the city took over management of Main Streetilitating public works such as streetlights, drains, stormwater systems etc., which continue to be managed by the city today. Today’s economy is based largely on agriculture with some manufacturing activity sprinkled throughout the village limits; however most production takes place within one or two businesses concentrated along Slauson Avenue just south of I-15 exit 68A/US 101 exit 10B. These are: Sutter’s Millinery & Capsule Factory #1 (founded 1934), Golden Grain Company #2 (founded 1935), American Weavers Incorporated #3 (1970), Pima Cotton Mills #4 (1984) and Hershey’s Chocolate factory(1987). Fountain Valley has experienced many changes during its history including being annexed by Los Angeles County in 1932; experiencing rapid growth due to World War II military activities; becoming an El Monte satellite town following annexation in 1957; decline during the 1970s caused by high unemployment rates for workers in manufacturing industries associated with those locales outside of farming and ranching pursuits but resurgence during recent years due to increased development around Interstate 15/State Route 95 corridor

The local economy is heavily dependent on agriculture which produces fruits such as apples and oranges; vegetables including pumpkins and winter squash; livestock such as dairy cows, goats, horses, pigs, sheep; lumber; mining; manufacturing; service industries such as tourism; and government services like water distribution or public health inspections
Fountain Valley is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 27,813 at the 2010 census. It was founded as an agricultural community in 1876 and named for the nearby Fountain of Youth. The city annexed parts of neighboring cities in 1907 and 1959, becoming one of Riverside's largest communities by area. The first post office in Fountain Valley opened on July 1, 1876. The name "Fountain Valley" was chosen because it had been recommended by local banker George Willard Fenton. In 1908, the city annexed part of Joplinville to form a larger municipality.
