Foster City was founded in 1887 by Levi Foster and his wife, Emma. The city’s first store was built on the corner of First Street and Center Avenue. In 1915, the city voted to name its street after Edwin E. Arnold, one of California’s most prominent politicians and a leader in the 1912-1914 Progressive Party campaign for office. In 1922, the city made headlines when it became the first U.S. municipality to ratify the International Olympic Committee’s Creed Award program. In 1927, Foster City hosted its first world championship event in swimming; that year also saw construction of what is now known as Municipal Auditorium (later renamed City Hall). The city underwent an extensive renovation project in 1935-1936 which included new streets and buildings; during this time, important economic growth took place in Foster City thanks to both manufacturing and professional services businesses moving into town from other parts of California. Later that decade, World War II began and Foster City played a significant role in supporting military efforts throughout the war; during 1945-1946, many homes were destroyed by fire resulting from munitions production at nearby Douglas Aircraft Company plants. In 1951-1952, Foster City experienced another major renovation project which included replacement of all major Streets with new asphalt surface treatments; during this time, downtown business districts such as Polk & Stockton Streets around Main Street got their start as well as several new highrise buildings being constructed along Main Street near Snelling Avenue. Foster City is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1887 by John Fenton Foster and his wife Anna Maria Smith Foster. In 1906, it merged with the adjacent town of Pacifica to form the new city of Foster City. The name comes from John Fenton Foster's father-in-law, General George Sutter. The first post office in Foster City was established on December 12, 1887. The city became part of San Francisco on February 14, 1893. On April 15, 1907, the city annexed Pacifica. On June 6, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued an Executive Order creating "the Park District of North Beach" within the boundaries of the newly formed city of Foster City; this area would eventually become downtown Los Angeles]. On October 3rd voters passed Proposition 5 which authorized $5 million for park development within two years – this money would be used to build such iconic landmarks as Dodger Stadium and Angels Stadium (now Angel Stadium). In 1932 Mayor James Rolph dedicated what is now known as California Plaza to service employees of various governmental agencies who had worked in close proximity during his administration while he was mayor; also located on California Plaza were three public toilets and one swimming pool that remain today as part of Recreation & Parks Department property holdings within the Downtown core bounded by Third Street on the north side and Beale Street on the south side. It wasn't until 1984 when then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein renamed California Plaza after Drayson Johnson who had been instrumental in helping her campaign for office four years earlier - later becoming Feinstein's Deputy Chief Of Staff and Advisor To The Mayoralty beginning in 1992 under then-Governor George Deukmejian [who served from January 7th through November 5th 1994]). Today's portion of Johnson plaza between Third Street and Beale Streets is home to both SFU Museum Campus housing numerous facilities including art galleries and research labs as well as several restaurants/bars/nightlife venues like Zaza’s Italian Kitchen & Barbecue & Live Music Cafe where performances are often scheduled throughout late night or into early morning hours

Foster City is a city in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 35,828 at the 2010 census. It is the tenth most populous city in San Francisco and the fourth most populous within BART's jurisdictional boundaries. Foster City is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Foster City were three Franciscans who went there in 1849 as part of their exploration of Northern California. They named it after Father José de Zúñiga y Ortega, Rector of Santa Clara Mission, who had been sent by Governor Manuel Nieto to explore this region. In 1852, John Cranch built a cabin on the west side of Yerba Buena Island for himself and his wife Emmeline Cranch; they were the first white people to live in that area since Rancho Durango was granted in 1777 to Juan Bautista Lomaño and his family. In 1856, Jens Jensen (1801-1886), an Danish immigrant and one of America’s leading bankers and investors, purchased land east of Yerba Buena Island from Pedro Folsom for $5 per acre (about $ today). He began construction on a small town called Farmington which he named after his farm near Copenhagen but never got around to finishing because he died before finishing it. His widow continued construction until her death in 1886 also before she could finish the town name change to Foster City proper. By 1870 there were 100 residents living in Farmington with five schools, two churches and one hotel/motel. The next year saw another improvement when Revendo & Son started building what would become Alta Radisson Hotel on Marengo Street across from Humboldt Park Cemetery north of Market Street where they had Rooms 1 through 9 (now used as office space). A fire destroyed much property within downtown Foster City between 1900-1902 prompting Mayor George Parker to ask architect Alfred Holmquist about creating an "official" center for the city with streetscape improvements including parks and plazas instead of just open spaces like present day Union Square or Masonic Temple Plaza due to concerns over future growth potential outside those areas while still remaining within city limits without fear of losing valuable real estate inside city walls if such growth did occur beyond city limits again later ongrounds outside current boundaries forming new neighborhoods such as Novato or El Sobrante which are completely separate from Foster City by geography even though many services offered by businesses located inside old neighborhoodsincluding transportation optionsare available only within walking distance or less than 10 minutes' ride from inside historic neighborhoodsresidents today can enjoy all that exists inside historic neighborhoods while still being able to access all modern amenitiesAvailable transportation options include bus rapid transit lines served by Muni buses running along Castro Street out into Novato then south onto Highway 101 towards El Sobranteand OaklandInternational Airport lies just east off Interstate 680 right next door making it easy for residents both intra-cityand inter-city travel without ever havingto leave their neighborhoodMuni bus rapid transit lines serve downtownSan Francisco's Financial District
