By 1847 there were 10 families living in or around present day Foster City. In 1849 James Fenton purchased land east of Sacramento Street from Juan Santa Cruz for $10 per acre ($102/$ km²). He named his property Domingo Castro until he sold it to others including himself for $135/acre ($2 million/$ km²) in 1852 which made Foster City the largest settlement within two miles of downtownSan Francisco. The post office was established at Post Office Corner (later renamed Frick & Fuller) on Center Street between Third Avenue and Union Square on October 20th 1850 by Hiram Sutter with mail delivered twice daily throughout the winter months to subscribers inside Warm Springs Lighthouse outside today’s Financial District area.. On November 15th 1860 Samuel Brannan opened up store #1 at Eighth and Mission Streets after moving from Dublintown where he’d owned land since before 1800 having emigrated from Ireland during the American Revolution under British rule but prior to that had resided inatcher Stockbridge MA area.. Brannan’s store became known as The General Store which continued operating successfully until 1861 when fire destroyed much of downtownSan Francisco due to an early morning foggy day.. In 1865 Lorenzo Dowling acquired 2nd Street between Mission and Howard Streets from Captn Johnno McDougall for $4 per acre (.$105/$ km²). He named his property Dowling Heights after his father David Dowling who had raised crops thereabouts beginning about 1800 along with other pioneers such as John Cranch who founded Novato CA (now North Berkeley) back then too! In 1870 weirs were built across Vallejo Creek supplying fresh water to citizens northward while farmers downriver supplemented their quota with catch taken from local rivers otters etcetera .. Dowling Heights soon became known as Eastshore Ranch following purchase by J B Henschel who turned it into a sheep ranch operations commenced grazing 30000 head rams tillable acres irrigated with wind power starting during 1926 .. Over time several commercial tenants developed including J M Bruce Coal Co whose shovel tests LLC still operates out their garage door these days 🙂 Finally Hewlett-Packard closed their Palo Alto mainframes here back in 1984 soadraps huh? 😛 . After years off duty various residents returned Downtown real estate prices went through many highs high enough to support 2 large parking garages adjacent each side dating back pre ‘1984 when this lot cost only $3/sqft 😜 lots later sold retail going thru multiple expressions like QVC herein below 🙂 finally hit mark late last yr for Inquiries consenting thereto…..and bingo…..new owner!!! . Today foster city has 28805 residents making up over 60%of its current population

The first Europeans to visit what is now Foster City were Spanish traders who landed there on December 12, 1769, during Captain José de Arguelles' expedition led by Gaspar de Portolà. On July 25, 1847, an American party consisting of Nathan Bedford Forrest and William Fenton traveled through these parts and camped near where Lake Merritt now stands east of Telegraph Hill while exploring what would become Contra Costa County. They found little good land available for farming so they turned back after two weeks but left behind three barrels of powder that would later be used in the Mexican- rancho war against Mexico In 1850 John Hildebrandt acquired 8 acres (3 ha) west of present day downtown Foster City from George Washington Irving for $850 Hildebrandt had come into possession of this land after his father-in-law bought it from Drury Lane Tavernier for $1 per acre . Hildebrandt began developing it into a farmstead with six rooms plus outbuildings including a barn which served as his home until his death in 1862 . He named his property Rancho Hildebrandt which means " place where trees grow ". His grandson also acquired Rancho Hildebrandt adding another 2 acres (0 ha) to it resulting in 16 acres (7 ha) total . This piece of farmland formed what is today known as North Beach On November 22nd 1860 , appointment letter no: 3483473 was received from Samuel Goldwyn authorizing him to purchase one acre lot No 4 within thenceforward called Prospect Heights cornering upon Post Road between Fourth Street ETC & Vinegar Hill & bounded by First Street N&W on W side next postion; thence easterly along Post Road northeasterly across Vinegar Hill line following First Street NE; thence westerly along Vinegar Hill line following SecondStreet NW until intersection thereof with Post Road at north end
