In 1856 it annexed parts of Butte County and its namesake community changed its name to Arroyo Grande after that year's annual Nevada River floods destroyed most of what had once been Foster City's buildings and infrastructure. The city experienced rapid growth following World War II when many people from nearby Tulare COUNTY relocated to Foster City because of good jobs in agriculture or processing plants related to the war effort. The population increased rapidly until the early 1970s while crime rates stayed high due to an endemic problem in that era called "knocking on doors" which involved residents trying to get government assistance for various personal problems they were having without actually visiting any businesses or going inside to ask for help. This type of behavior often led to criminal convictions and/or jail time for some who received too much assistance from government officials instead of taking advantage of their opportunities honestly In response to this situation, Mayor Donny Young created a new zoning code which limited window cleaning services companies that operated near city limits (the business activity was believed to have caused crime) and prohibited first-time offenders from owning handguns without getting prior written consent from police officers Work began on developing an adjacent parkland where today’s downtown Foster City stands with plans for a large plaza with restaurants, movie theaters etc., generating over $100 million worth of economic development over 10 years As predicted by many during this time period downtown would become increasingly commercialized leading eventually to other cities copying FosterCity’s model but failing miserably

Foster City, California is a city located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. It is one of the most populous cities in Northern California and has a population of over 600,000 people as of 2016. The native peoples who called the area by this name include the Ohlone, Huchiwaht, and Pomo people. The first European to visit Foster City was John Cranch in 1849. In 1856, General Mariano Escobar laid out an area for industrial development on Nob Hill known as Richardson Rancho then named after his friend and business associate William Richardson. In 1861, San Francisco became part of Mexico when it was ceded to that country following its war with United States over the Mexican-American War. As a result of this event, Foster City became part of Mexico proper and did not have its own municipal government until 1883 when it was incorporated as a city under Spanish jurisdiction with a population of around 50 residents. The first apartment buildings were built in Foster City during the 1930s with many being constructed by real estate developer Sam Yerushalmy. During World War II, Foster City served as an important military base from which various munitions were unloaded and stored before shipment to theaters all over the world. The city also hosted several Formula One races during this time including those at Candlestick Park in 1965 and 1973 where streetcars helped transport spectators between venues on Franklin Street near Polk Street across Golden Gate Park to watch these events firsthand. After World War II ended there was much discussion about how best to commemorate Japan's surrender given their role in wartime atrocities such as Hiroshima and Nagasaki while also acknowledging America's role in that conflict which ultimately led to Japan's unconditional surrender nine years later at noon on September 2nd 1945 known officially as "Hiroshima Day." At that time there were only small village-style memorials scattered throughout Japan honoring Japanese soldiers who had died during or after World War II while large operational bases like army posts remained largely unchanged knowledge that they would one day be visited by American visitors once again eager for another opportunity to apologize for our actions abroad while secretly glad they finally succumbed to history - something we continue today unable or unwilling to face head-on
Foster City was founded in 1887 by George Foster and Mary Hinton. The area now includes the neighborhoods of Foster City, San Bruno, and South Park. In 1912, the city annexed the adjacent town of Redwood City.
