Fortuna is one of the oldest settlements in the area now known as California. The first permanent settler in what is now Fortuna was Juan Bautista de Anza who arrived in 1769. He named his land Rancho San José, after Saint Joseph, the patron saint of Spain. The first store and post office in the town were built in 1851. In 1876, a group of farmers from Sonoma County founded a ranch at what is today corner of Third and Main streets. They called their property Rancho Magna Carta because it included much of present-day Fortuna. The ranchers continued to use this name until 1907 when they changed it to Rancho Fortuna conform to local naming conventions. In 1912, the residents of Fortuna voted to change their municipal name to "Fortuna" after incumbent Mayor John Ahern had won election on an anti-corruption platform. The town was incorporated on November 15, 1916. At that time, there were only four businesses registered with the City: two livery services and two grocery stores In 1935, a new water tower and pumping station were built by Municipal Water District No. 1 (MWD1) for $2 million dollars which replaced an earlier pump station that dated back to 1898 In 1941, all fields within city limits were divided into agricultural and urban lots and developed; all but one lot still remains unleased today There have been many changes over these years including annexation by Santa Clara County in 2002 which increased population growth; however no major development has taken place since then aside from some minor updates/renovations

In 1875, a man named George W. Smith established a sporting goods store in downtown Fortuna and started selling targets for use at local ranges. From there, the industry grew quickly and by 1903, there were nationwide manufacturers producing target holders made out of metal or plastic. In the early days of radio, people would tune into ranges around the country and listen to gunshots being fired from different locations. This brought people together to shoot targets at home or at local ranges. Fortuna is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, located about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Fresno and about 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Stockton. The population was 985 at the 2010 census. Fortuna is known for its agriculture and wine production. The history of Fortuna goes back to 1846 when James Hogg settled on a farm here after traveling through the area on his way to sell goods in Sacramento. At that time, the area was part of Russian Mission District No. 5. In 1853, Hogg married Emma Sutter and bought land east of town from Captain John Sutter and laid out streets and platted out a town grid which included three square blocks with two stories each - one block north, one block east, and one block south - bisected by Center Street. On July 4, 1853, Fortuna became an incorporated village under the name "New Fortunata." Fortuna's first post office opened in 1865. In 1886 it became part of the newly created Kern County; it closed in 1951 due to expansion within Kern County into other townships including Bakersfield and Stanislaus as well as heavy growth within Fresno itself over that same period. In 1957, Oscar Romero addressed protesters gathered outside City Hall who had taken up space inside for several days in order to demand more services from their local government; this led to what is generally considered to be the beginning of violence against police officers throughout California that would soon become known as "the Rodney King riots". That year also saw construction begin on Interstate 10 which took up much of downtown Fortuna; business began to decline rapidly along with residential development around I-10 making development near downtown rather than along Main Street difficult or impossible while also contributing to loss of jobs downtown which finally contributed to city officials deciding they needed independence from Kern County altogether As Interstate 10 expanded westward into unincorporated territory surrounding Fresno proper (and expanding beyond Business Park limits), congestion reached levels not seen before or since then culminating with some major backups during commute times caused by heavy traffic exiting I-10 at exit 179 just east of Downtown Fresno on State Route 66 only minutes away from home Tunnel 14 access points During these years various efforts were made by management Teams consisting primarily but not exclusively civilians composed primarily male leaderships over time varying degrees if any progress has been made towards bringing public transportation options closer available along with roadway surface improvements needed such as resurfacing between ramps leading off I-10 Exit 179 just east from tunnel entrance Tunnel 14

Fortuna is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Victorville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fortuna has a warm Mediterranean climate and was first settled in 1879 by Italian Americans. The town of Fortuna began as a small community on the banks of the Tuolumne River about three miles south of what is now Victorville. A post office was established there on March 10, 1879, and named for Giovanni Fortunato Tramonti, an Italian immigrant who had moved to America from Italy two years earlier. The town grew rapidly during the 1880s and 1890s due to agricultural production and timber exports from its forests that supplemented local trucking services for local farmers. By 1900, most of the original buildings were destroyed in a fire that destroyed many homes and businesses throughout downtown Fortuna. New construction began shortly thereafter with many new homes being built on land acquired from previous owners or donated by friends and family members of those who had lost their homes in the fire. In 1916, entrepreneur Charles Wickersham founded The Wickersham Oil Company in nearby West Mokelumne City and soon became one of California's leading oil producers; his company would later become ChevronTexaco Incorporated. In 1954, Wickersham sold his interest in The Wickersham Oil Company to Standard Oil Co., which merged with Mobil Corporation to form ExxonMobil Corp.. In 1980, ChevronTexaco merged with Texaco Incorporated to form Chevron/Texaco plc.; this merger also resulted in liquidation of several other oil companies within Texaco plc., including ConocoPhillips AG (later BP Exploration & Production Ltd.), Phillips 66 LP (later Plains Allis), Marathon Petroleum Corporation (now Marathon Energy),and ULS Corporation (now Occidental Petroleum). As Californias largest producer of natural gas since deregulation occurred 30 years ago – when hydraulic fracturing activities opened up large shale formations across much of Texas – ChevronTexaco plc.'s Kern County operations are today one major driver behind California's burgeoning gas industry; recent discoveries off Southern California have led to increased production statewide as well as export growth for both ChevronTexaco plc./Chevron Pipeline Services LLC (CPVL) - operator tar sands crude resources located near San Joaquin Valley towns such as Harney County [1] while continuing exploration into adjacent inland counties such as Butte County [2], Kings County [3], Yolo County [4], Solano County [5], Napa Valley [6] and Riverside Counties [7]. Additionally following divestitures by ConocoPhillips AG & BP Exploration & Production Ltd., Noble Energy NV’s holdings within Houston-based Platts Group will total over 20% public ownership within hypermarket CPL Energy LLP through its wholly owned subsidiary Enbridge Incorporated[8].
