In 1907, EBMD merged with West Bay Municipal Utility District (WBMD) to become East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD). EBMUD continues to provide services today. In 1969, EBMUD replaced West Bay Municipal Utility District as responsible for all public water systems within EBMD boundaries - including those serving unincorporated areas outside of EBMD boundaries. These systems continue today under various names including Metropolitan Water Agency of Southern California (MWASC), Central Valley Public Utilities Authority (CPUA) or Eastbay Water & Electric Company (EWEC).
