The discovery led to rapid growth in Fortuna and its surrounding areas as people came to exploit the gold and silver resources that were present hereabouts. In 1911, Fortuna became one of three townships within Yuba County when it was created from parts of Arden and Enterprise Counties. As more people moved into these communities they needed stores, schools and other infrastructure services that could be provided by county government. This response led to the construction of several large public buildings in Fortuna over the years including Roybal Hall (now Brown Hall), Post Road Elementary School, Stryker Middle School and Pritchett Gymnasium which still serve as some of the most important educational institutions in this community today. Fortuna has also been home to various businesses such as Wells Fargo Bank, PepsiCo Inc., United Airlines Corporation (UAL), Ford Motor Company (Ford) and many more since its inception back in 1911!
