In 1931, John Bealls grandson, Irwin Wernher Beall became President and CEO of Winchester Arms Corporation (WAC). At WAC, he made many advances within the firearms industry including developing new types of ammunition such as shot shells and reloadable rounds. In 1951, Winchester introduced its first rifle cartridge – .222 Remington Magnum – which would become one of America’s most popular hunting cartridges. During WAC’s tenure there were several significant changes within the firearms industry including moving production from New York City to Metropole Arsenal in London; development of nylon bullets; increasing consumer demand for firepower; and growth within military and law enforcement markets alike. During WAC’s time there were various innovations that helped increase accuracy while reducing recoil or noise when firing rifles or handguns: adjustable sights revolutionized shooting; cold hammering improved cycling rates on firearms with no live rounds present; blowback operated pistols came into existence; handgun ammo was standardized so manufacturers could produce simple brass cases without having to mix different types of projectiles together

The name of the town comes from the Latin word "Fortuna," meaning "good fortune." The history of Fortuna goes back to 1878 when Haddon Snyder founded a wagon business here. In 1925, he opened his first convenience store, which still stands today. From that time until 1989, Fortuna was home to one of the world's last continuously operating dry goods stores - Snyder's Grits & Grains department store. In 1990, local entrepreneur Tom Kapp bought Snyder's Grits & Grains and closed the store all together in what was then one of the most dramatic exits in Kern County history. Kapp reopened it as an e-commerce store two years later with additional indoor seating for customers inside and out on three floors of glass walls. That store remains open today as part of online retailer Amazon Web Services' cloud infrastructure arm AmazonBasicsnlc., Fortuna's biggest customer base ever (~60%!). Today, Fortuna is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration (the world's largest beer festival), which attracts over 100,000 people each year!
