In 1907 the County Fairgrounds became the home of the first annual Western Gun Show and Gun Club which still meets annually here. The American Pistol Championship held at the fairgrounds from 1911 to 1915 was won by cowboy Earle Condon who shot a barrel of ammunition out of a cannon on stage reaching 350 yards! The next year, 1912, an 8-foot by 10-foot steel target was erected on property adjacent to US 101 near what is now South Stonington Avenue junction. This made Fontana one of the most popular locations forgun shooting in Northern California as well as across America because it could be reached easily from many parts of town. In 1916 a 10-foot high steel frame target was erected at milepost 9 on State Route 16 east of town and this became known as “The Lady’s Throne” after Mrs. John Journaldis, proprietor. It remained standing until it was destroyed by fire in 1978. In 1922 an 11-inch x 17-inch steel target went up at Westwood Place Shopping Center off I Street south of town and it remains today as one of Fontana’s most popular targets (and also its only remaining structure). With its two elevated platforms there is plenty of space for shooters to get close and make accurate shots with their pistols or rifles. A 12-by 18-foot rifle range extension opened up at Eastlands Park off Rodeo Drive in 1969 which has been used by various law enforcement agencies including the Sheriff’s Department since 1985 when it replaced an old golf course clubhouse which served them for over 50 years! Over 400 rounds have been fired here during open meetings since 1984 with no failures! Today, gun enthusiasts from all over Northern California come together each year to shoot at various targets located around Fontana including: water towers (1926), power plants (1965), military installations (1967), shopping malls (1983), oil refineries (1984) and more! Fontana is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 2,966 at the 2000 census. Fontana is part of the Bakersfield–Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. The east side of town is home to the larger Fontana Unified School District and the west side has smaller communities like Vista and Sunnyside. The name "Fontana" originated from Rancho San Felipe de la Jolla which was given to Francisco Sutter by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on November 15, 1769. On July 12, 1859, John C. Fremont founded a settlement called Gormanville in what is now Sunnyside and gave it to his friend, David Waddell who had built him a rancho there in 1846-47. Waddell named it for his paternal grandfathers father General Don José de la Junta y Saenz who had fought with Mexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna at the Battle of Buena Ventura on October 21, 1821 near present day Tijuana. At some point after this battle, General La Junta's forces took up arms against Mexican general Agustín Manuel Ocampo and he was turned over to Mexico as part of peace negotiations that brought about Santa Ana's ouster as governor of California on February 23rd,. In 1865 when California became an Republic under Ulysses S Grant following Mexican victory in the Alta Californias campaign against American tyranny Governor Pico ordered all military hardware including artillery stored along 8 miles (12 km) of beachfront between Petaluma and Menifee because they did not trust Grant any longer being able to protect them if war broke out with Mexico again In 1876 Fenton family bought 1/2 mile (1 km) east of present day Fontana from David Waddell for $10 per acre (4 ha). They named their farm Storey’s Campground where they raised sheep and cattle until 1906 when most people moved away during prohibition due to increased law enforcement activity around Fontana In 1915 Aiello moved into town from Fresno Plains and started brewing beer commercially In 1922 Kapp Brothers opened their soda fountain down Main Street By 1930 most businesses had closed or relocated away due to Prohibition but one business still remained open - Kapp Bros Soda Fountain which continued operations until 1953 ensuing closures fewer than 5 years overall In 1951 Kapp Bros Tamale factory closed after many years in operation making tamales for Los Angeles market also closure followed by construction of new plant adjacent to old site giving rise to suggestion that Place du Pont may have been renamed after restaurant founders . Roundabout Inn & Lounge which operated opposite store closed shoplifting incidents becoming known as “Fantomas” . Also Checkerboard Cafe closed its doors following several years serving refreshments alcohol only leaving lone gas station remaining open next door since 1970 with attached restaurant serving breakfast items until 2003 . Sears store closed 1972 leaving only two stores remain in town: One operates as Sam’s Club while other provides some retail services such as repair shops

Fontana is a small city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east bank of the Fontana River and bordered by Arroyo Grande to the south and west, Simi Valley to the north, and Thousand Oaks to the east. The first Europeans to visit what is now Fontana were Spanish Franciscan missionaries in 1769. They named it after another small town in southern Mexico called San Fernando de los Bueyes. In 1824, merchants from Southern California founded a post called Gaviota Bayou for wagon trains traveling between Los Angeles and Sacramento. The first store in Fontana was established at Fourth Street and Avenue C in 1872 by Wm. Hutton & Son. In 1910, violence broke out between Mexicans who had been living near where the city now stands and farmers who had leased land for grazing purposes near Disney's Rancho del Cabrillo development on present-day Riverside Boulevard and Avenida La Paz (now I-5). A commission formed by Mayor James Fenton made recommendations that led to passage of an ordinance establishing prohibition of alcohol within 500 feet of public buildings on November 15, 1911; this ordinance became effective January 1, 1912. Fenton also proposed creating a new city government with a mayor-council system which would be separate from that of San Bernardino County; however this proposal also failed to gain approval from county commissioners or voters. In 1913 City Manager John Sperling organized a street cleaning committee which won first place in a competition sponsored by the American Legion AuxiliaryVersus German Americans Competition Committee sponsored by local clothier Samuel Flournoy Sons Company . On May 2nd 1914 Municipal Council voted 6-1 against incorporation into any other municipality because it felt that it would not have enough financial support due to its limited land area
