In 1928, another new armory and magazine were built at 17th Street and Wadsworth Avenue; this became known as Fontana Arms Company (FAC). In 1935, FAC amalgamated with North American Arms Company to form North American Firearms Corporation (NAFC). NAFC merged with Olympic Arms Corporation in 1957 to become Olympic Arms & Ammunition Corporation (OAC). OAC merged with Glock Manufacturing Incorporated on October 1st of that year to become Glock Incorporated.
Fontana, California is a small town located in the Kern County of southern California. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is an agricultural community and has a full-time school system. The name comes from two families who founded it in 1887: John Fontana and his wife Anna Fontana. The townsite was named for their farm house called "Fontana," which still stands today. The first people to live in what is now Fontana were Juan Bautista de Anza and his family, who founded Mission San Gabriel Arcangelico on November 3rd, 1776. They were followed by other Spanish missionaries and traders before the area became part of Mexican territory following the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1847, Anglo Californians arrived seeking land grants and started to build homes around present day Fontana. By 1860, there were over 100 settlers living in what is now Fontana. On January 1st, 1887, John Fenton bought 640 acres of Rancho San Bernardino from Jose Sanchez for $5,-$10 per acre ($640/$26,000). This gift helped start the local cotton farming economy that continues to this day. The town was platted on December 12th 1890 by Captain James Fenton with help from Humboldt County Surveyor Manuel Nieto y Ulloa as a way to provideNAME recognition for his new settlement; he hoped that others would want to move here because of its strategic location near both water resources and railroads running through nearby Tulare County. A post office opened in 1893 under the name "New Braunfels" but changed its name to "Fontana" on May 31st 1895 due to confusion among farmers with similar names across America! A school district was organized in 1903 and named after Mrs. Anna Sangerfontan who had been instrumental in starting it - Mrs Sangerfontan Elementary School currently serves students from kindergarten through 8th grade! In 1916 voters passed a proposition Authorizing State funding for a public high school within eight miles of New Braunfels so that residents could share one educational experience instead of havingto travel 50+ miles each way! This event marks the beginning of adult education in southeastern CA! Today's high school offers classes ranging from PreKindergarten all the way up to college level courses!
