FONTANA, CA (October 10, 1907-August 2, 1970) was a small city located in the Central Valley of California. Fontana became an important center for agricultural production during the early years of the twentieth century and later became a major hub for industry. The city's history is tightly bound to its residents and their families who have lived and worked there for generations. Fontana is located at 37°24′N 121°14′W on what was once a fertile farming soil that has now been converted into part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. In 1907, John Fenton founded the Fenton vanilla plantation in what is now known as Fontana. The town was named after him and his wife Nellie French Fenton. The first post office in Fontana was established on November 12, 1907. By 1923, the population had grown to over 1,500 people. The first mills in downtown were built by entrepreneur Alonzo Ames in 1912 as a way to increase crop yields through irrigation systems he had developed himself. Ames also constructed a grocery store and sawmill on Santa Fe Boulevard which still stands today as an example of early 20th century industrial development in Fontana. During World War II, many industries relocated to Fontana from nearby towns such as Lancaster and Ontario because of its strategic location within easy driving distance of military bases around Orange County including Disneyland and Hollywood Park. In 1951, when Interstate 5 bypassed central California and entered Los Angeles County from Kern County acrossVeteran Boulevard (now I-5),Fontana lost much of its rural character but continued to grow rapidly with new subdivisions being built along I-5 throughout the remainder of the 1950s until it reached its current size by 1960 . Many high-rise apartment buildings were erected during this time period including Oneonta Tower (now owned by Toll Brothers Inc.) which topped out at 653 feet (183 meters). This rapid growth led to increased traffic congestion on I-5 which caused bumper stickers reading "I can't go any further; here's my suggestion: try running" to become popular among drivers near downtown Fontanas commercial districts during this time period

Fontana was founded in 1892 by three brothers, Edward, George and Willis Fontana. The family ran the business until it went out of business in the early 1920s.
