Folsom is a small town in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera metropolitan area. Folsom was founded on April 6, 1871 by James W. Folsom and his partners as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Sacramento to Lodi. The name comes from Latin for "flowering outcrop." Folsom's earliest years were difficult; it was located near a gold Rush site and had to fight off Native Americans who considered it theirs. In 1882, however, Folsom became a dry goods store and post office and saw its first commercial activity as an agent for Pemberton Grains Company in Sanger City (now Midvale). The Panic of 1893 struck America hard, causing prices of goods exported to drop 50%. In response to the crisis local businessmen erected warehouses that still stand today including The Citizens Cooperative Store (later known as PacificCoast) which now spans 3 blocks with over 120 buildings in all! In 1896James W. Folsom married Ida Ewing Bacon who gave him four children: James W., Jr., Harry A., Mildred and William H.. James W.'s father had been mayor of Fresno from 1865-1867 and he helped build what is now City Hall in 1868. When World War I started in 1914 there was no market for American food because Europe’s markets were closed due to war restrictions… until America entered World War II! With production capacity up nearly 100%, American foods became available for export when European markets reopened after the war... This led to increased demand for local produce which caused farmers to increase production even more! In 1951 the city built its first public school complete with playgrounds and other amenities that remain today including Parks High School Gymnasium on West Broadway Street across from City Hall. Today’s schools include: Folsom Community College District; Kern Valley Unified School District; Kings Canyon Unified School District; Central Coast Monterey Union School District; John Muir Elementary School also open enrollment K-5th grade through 8th grade called “Monterey Peninsula Academy” also open enrollment program….And finally Holy Name Catholic Church nursery
