In 1866, Folsom State Normal School was founded. A public school building was constructed in 1923 and used until 1984 when it was replaced by a new building which is now called the Edward Jones Building. In 1927, California State University became an institution with campuses located in Sacramento and San Bernardino. In 1931, the state highway system was completed and included roads leading to Folsom from various points around the state. In 1934, construction began on what would become California State University's main campus at the present location of Golden Gate Park. The university acquired land adjacent to Marsh Field for its new campus and moved into its current structure in 1937.

Folsom is a city in Sacramento County, California. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Folsom has been inhabited by Native Americans for over three thousand years and was first settled by Californio Mexicans in 1851. The town was named after General Arneson Folsom, an American general who fought in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. In 1872, it became a town with a charter from the state of California. The City of Folsom (population: 376 as of June 1, 2016) began its existence on November 3, 1872 when it was granted city status by the Board of Supervisors from San Joaquin County via act No. 47th Legis., cosponsored by Supervisor John Atherton; however no tax collection took place until January 8, 1873 due to lack of appropriations from then Controller James Blythe. On January 8th $5 per capita sales tax liability assessment took place within “The Tracts East and West Of Center Street” which included most of today’s downtown area including much of what is now known as “Tract X” - this being prior to any annexation or subdivision taking place within that portion of town land; however nothing further transpired until December 15th 1873 when Supervisor John Atherton filed an ordinance annexing portions of east and west sides called "Tract Y" which included much today's downtown area including what is now known as "Tract Z". On October 2nd 1870 Nathaniel Hawthorne purchased 5 acres located southwest corner lot number two on Main Street in present day Folsom for $600 cash including all improvements theretofore built thereon - this being our present day Fourth Street - Hawthorne having himself erected said building thereby becoming our first Mayor & Town Clerk...In those early days we had one newspaper – The Nevada Herald – published each week at Our Hall on First street between Highways 50 & 52 SouthEast corner…This paper served us well for many years past but alas discontinued publication some time ago effective July 1st 1870″ A detailed history about Folsom can be found online at californialibraryfoundation.org/neighborhoods/folsom/. During his term as Mayor from 1870 through 1875 Nathan Hawthorne also served as Town Clerk - later renamed to Municipal Clerk – responsible for all aspects related to municipal government within the boundaries set forth inartermentally by Supervisor James Blythe.. In addition to his duties as Mayor NathanHawthorne also held other offices such as Justice Court Commissioner (1870-71), Tax Collector (1871-77), School District Superintendent (1877-79) and finally Asst Sheriff (1979). From 1880 through 1886 NathanHawthorne again served asMayor with distinction holding office twice more before retiring effective February 22nd 1886 having reached the age requirement set forth by law at 40 years old! NathanHawthorne died suddenly while attending a dinner honoring Governor George Hearn near here on April 12 1888 leaving behind him 4 children plus 2 grandchildren! His wife Nellie continued living next door to her husband’s home until her death in 1951 resulting in their daughter Irene moving into their house next door starting out life crashing against walls like everyone else growing up hereabouts! At least one resident still remembers her childhood home back then! Today residents call 4 streets NW Corner Avenue NE Third Street SW Corner Avenue SE Second Street uppermost block district North section So Cal State University North Campus housing units are located blocks away along with numerous small businesses including several banks across four main thoroughfares currently under development This rapidly changing metropolis sees constant change with new construction ongoing 24×7 just around every bend making it difficult sometimes impossible especially if trying try not too stare straight ahead seen all sortsof things going on right smack dab IN THE MIDDLE OF IT ALL never mind walking anywhere these days lol
Folsom is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 31,059 at the 2010 census. Folsom was named for Captain James Folsom who fought in the Mexican-American War and also helped found Stockton. It became part of the City of Sacramento when it joined the state of California in 1850. Folsom was platted on December 29, 1851 by Capt. James Folsom and Wm Hargrave as part of the Rancho Feliciana grant. The town's first post office opened in November 1852. In 1857, Folsom became a county seat with Sacramento becoming its territorial capital; however, 4 years later it reverted to its original name due to lack of support from local officials. A school district was established in 1865 and another in 1876; both were disbanded in 1915 when Measure R (regarding educational funding) went into effect which eliminated most public schools within San Joaquin County. The last post office closed on March 12, 1929 after serving less than 6 months due to low mail volume caused by the Great Depression which had begun two years earlier. The city began annexed by Fresno on January 1, 1959 but re-opened as an incorporated city on February 5 that same year under new management including then Mayor Arturo Carpintero and City Clerk Dolores Sanchez (). On October 15th 1960 voters approvedMeasure J ( creating a Charter Commission )which allowed for annexation by other cities without prior approval from the Board Of Supervisors . Annexation occurred on December 3rd 1961 with Modesto joining as an annexing city . On July 7th 1975 voters passed Proposition 218 which repealed all ordinances implemented since 1984 that regulated commercial fishing rights off shoreensecurity zones near Folsom (). This set off what would become known as "The Fish Wars" between fishermen and environmentalists over generations of fish passage restrictions placed around this area now known as Kettle Valley Naval Shipyard .)
