Folsom, California is home to the oldest continuously operating firearms factory in the United States. The company was founded in 1881 by John S. Folsom and his brother-in-law, George Stephenson. Today, Winchester Ammunition is headquartered in Folsom with a product line that includes pistols, rifles, shotgun shells, and more. In 1881, John S. Folsom and his brother-in-law decided to start a company manufacturing ammunition for handguns and rifles in what is now known as the Folsom Firearms Factory. The company became successful and continued to produce ammunition until 1906 when it closed its doors due to financial difficulties. In 1907, Winchester Ammunition moved from its original location to larger facilities at 9th Street and Harper Avenue in downtown Folsom. At this point their product line included shotguns (the first shotgun made in America), pistols, rifle rounds/bullets, reloading supplies, as well as hand grenades and artillery rounds/bullets. During World War II Winchester Ammunition produced munitions for both the U.S. military and allies such as Great Britain and China. Their products were used during the war including dropping bombs on Japan from airplanes; delivering ordnance over enemy territory; firebombing Japanese factories;and fighting against guerrilla warfare throughout Southeast Asia! After World War II ended Winchester Ammunition ceased production of ammunition but kept their assets within the city of Folsom which they continue to use today for research purposes only!

Folsom is a city in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 27,671 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fresno County and its largest city by population. Folsom is also the home of California's only nuclear weapons plant. The first ammunition magazine in Folsom was built in 1868 by Capt. George Waddell and Lt. John Teller for use by their militia unit called the "Fresno Battalion". Ammunition production began in 1887 with an armory and warehouse built on what is now First Avenue West in downtown Folsom City. In 1916, the military moved to a new facility on North Market Street which served as until 1951 as Municipal Armory No. 2 (now State Capitol Annex). Ammunition production continued until 1968 when all munitions were transferred to Sacramento, CA due to budget cuts caused by US Sen Dick Russell's gun control legislation known as the Gun Control Act of 1968. In 1964-1965, ammunition plants were closed at Sacramento Arsenal and Stockton Arsenal due to oil riots that took place throughout America during this time period; however, a small amount of ammunition still remains today at both sites individual shell casings from these two plants are found on many building fronts throughout Fresno County! A new ammo plant opened up near Bakersfield in 2006 but it failed to make a profit so it was shut down within months after being unable to compete against cheaper Chinese ammo producers; however, some old shells from Bakersfield Ammo Plant remain scattered around town today!
