However by 1880 there were over fifty businesses in town including hardware stores, groceries store/grocery package delivery services and post offices; more than one hundred residents lived in single family homes or apartment buildings built before 1900 . . . In 1886 voters decided that an elected board should be established to manage public schools within the new school district so that parents could continue to have some control over their children's education although they would now attend local high schools instead of state institutions like Sac & Occidental High School which had been established only 10 years earlier! This new system worked well until 1912 when voters increased their proportionate share from 50% to 75% while at the same time reducing voting power for parents who wanted less say about how their children's education should be conducted! In 1916 voters again increased their share but this time they did not give up their right to choose how their children's education should be conducted! A referendum was passed asking whether all students within the new school district must attend Sac & Occidental High School or if pupils residing outside of the new school district (i.e., those living inside City limits) could enroll at their choice without having to go through our educational institution! After much debate (and some heavy political fighting) we voted 3-2 in favor OF THE STUDENTS GO TO SACRAMENTO HIGH SCHOOL!!! This example served as an inspiration for other towns throughout Northern California wanting autonomy fromSacramento County government even after annexation into Sacramento County!!
