The Fillmore Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club is still active today and has been meeting in the Fillmore Hall since 1907. In 1898, the club began a rifle competition tournament that continues to this day. In 1903, the club added a pistol competition to their lineup. The event continued until 1957. In 1916, the club became affiliated with the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA). In 1951, the Fillmore Rifle & Pistol Club merged with another local NRA organization, the San Francisco Rifle & Pistol Club (SFRP), which had been founded in 1946.
Fillmore is a small town in San Joaquin County, California. It was founded in 1887 by A.F. Fillmore and his son Alfred Fillmore Jr., who also ran the fillmores bakery and hotel. The Fillmores were among the first white settlers in what is now San Joaquin County, and their farmstead still stands today as a museum operated by the San Joaquin Valley Museum Foundation. The Fillmores were one of the last of the original Anglo American families to move to San Joaquin County from Stockton, California. They had emigrated from England in 1843 and arrived in Alameda City on October 15, 1847. After two years of farming they built a house on what is now Main Street in Fillmore with some logs from their farmstead at White Sands Creek. The house was completed in 1850 and served as their home until it burned down in 1906. Alfred Fillmore Jr., the father, died suddenly while serving as Mayor of Sacramento during World War I; his widow Nellie filled his role as mayor for one year before she too passed away soon after being elected to office. Alfred's son A.F.fillmore III took over running the family business until he became ill with pancreatic cancer which forced him to retire at age 70 years old in 1948; he was succeeded by his grandson Alfred Filippo fillMORE IV who continued operations until 2002 when he died at age 98 years old; finally, Alfred's great-grandson Alfonso Filippo fillMORE V assumed management of the business upon his grandfather's death

Fillmore began as a Stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Sacramento to Yosemite National Park. Fillmore became an attraction for prospectors and miners following the Gold Rush of 1849. It was known as the "Gateway to Gold" because of its location on the route between Sacramento and Yuba City. In 1858, fillmore was renamed after General James A. Fillmore who served as Governor of California during the Mexican-American War and then became President of America in 1859. The first post office at Fillmore was established on November 1, 1858, by Wm J. Hutton with mail sent from Yuba City via Stockton to fillMORE@mail1st [the name now used for southcentral San Joaquin County].
