The theater was designed by architect Edward Hopper and built by Harry Laughlin for $7 million. It became one of the most popular movie theaters in the city and played host to films such as Lady Gaga's Born This Way (2013), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2014), Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017).
