The Fillmore also hosted several major concerts throughout its history such as those by Joan Baez on October 15th 1969 at which she became one of only two people to headline a concert at that venue; Bob Dylan on July 5th 1974 during which he performed at both the main room upstairs before moving down into the balcony where he later sang “Blowin’ In The Wind”; Led Zeppelin playing two shows there on September 11th 1971 sandwiched between their US tourney match against Cream and John Lennon performing “yesterday afternoon” at Candlestick Park less than two weeks after being released from prison following his prior attack on Yoko Ono). Fillmore was a small, unincorporated community in San Diego County, California. It was located on the east side of Fillmore Mesa adjacent to the city of San Diego and it was named after General George C. Marshall who served as United States Secretary of War from 1945-1949. The first settler in Fillmore was John Leland who built a cabin in 1878. In 1902, Fillmore became an incorporated town with a population of around 100 people. In 1916, the fillMORE Post office opened and remained open until it closed in 1936. In 1938, Fillmore merged with the neighboring town of Carlsbad to form Carlsbad Town Council which continued to operate the post office until it closed in 1951. The last post office operator at Fillmore was Mrs. Alice White who operated the building from 1951-1957. A new school built at what is now Fillmore Mesa opened in 1957 and served students from kindergarten through eighth grade until 1959 when it closed down due to budget problems and vandalism by students over time. The town hall which had been used for public meetings since 1907 also closed down in 1959 and sat vacant for many years before being repurposed as an apartment building during the late 1990s and 2000s period known as "the ghost town". On October 1st 1909 General George C Marshall led American forces into battle against Spanish forces at la Teja River near San Diego while stationed at Camp Kearny Villa Mexican Military Post (later known as Presidio). Aftermath led to popular legend that General Marshall's body washed up on shore near where he later died creating speculation about his fate ever since his remains have not been found or identified definitively; however this story may not be true though there is evidence supporting its existence nonetheless
