In 1836, Confederate General Robert E. Lee used surplus bullet rounds from the Mexican-American War to fire at Union troops during the Battle of Monterrey. This action is considered to be the first use of a firearm by an American military officer in combat. In 1855, Captain John Millington Wiley developed a muzzleloader that allowed firing round after round off a rifle without having to reload. This new type of weapon was known as the “Wiley Rifle” and became popular among militias and cavalry units throughout America. The Winchester Model 1886 was introduced in 1888 and remained one of the most common firearms in America until World War I when it was replaced by the more reliable .30-06 caliber rifle. During World War II, bullets were again used extensively within America’s armed forces; however, this time they were specifically designed for artillery use instead of battlefield use. These projectiles were nicknamed “HE (High Explosive) Rounds” because they created extensive damage when fired through infantry targets or tanks like those used during World War I and II

In recent years, it has also become known for its unique architecture which includes brick buildings constructed using redwood lumber.
