The Fillmore area was first settled by Native Americans in the 1820s. A post office called Fillmore was established in 1828, and remained in operation until 1904. In 1860, John Davenport organized what would become known as the Davenport Party and traveled to California to offer his services as an exporter of goods for gold seekers searching for new discoveries on the West Coast of America. He named his new settlement Fillmore after General James Halleck's headquarters at Fort Mifflin near Philadelphia. In 1864, during the Ulysses S. Grant presidency, Fillmore became one of five towns located east of Los Angeles onranch land granted by Mexican President Alvarado Santa Ana to white settlers who had helped him resist American forces during their occupation of Mexico City; these settlers were also known as "Los Californios". In 1870–71 US Cavalry Captain Richard Ransom explored what is now fillMORE while serving under Lieutenant Colonel Doniphan with Company K 7th Cavalry Regiment (Cimarron) and found considerable Gold mineral deposits there that led to Senator Crocker's investment in nearby Ibbotson Mines (1872). This discovery led directly to Santa Anita Race Track being built just south of downtown Fillmore and soon filling up with horse races; today it remains one of only a few places where live racing takes place outside North America In 1876 Jules Micheaux opened a general store which quickly became a center for local agriculture due to its location close to water supplies from Mono Lake and Mono Creek; other early businesses included Blacksmith Shop #1 (1877), bakery #2 (1878), flour mill #3 (1879), lumberyard #4 (1881), restaurant #5 (1902) & Post Office (& Cafe) #6(1904). The first telephone line arrived here in 1888 when Western Electric constructed this pole across Mono Lake from their offices at Depot Station just north of downtown Fillmore Downtown business continued growing through World War II with stores like Woolworth's Grocery Store opening on Main Street between Hearn Avenue & Harrison Street then becoming Macy's department store before closing down around 1970s Downtown business mostly stopped due economic decline although some continue operating today including Mercantile Bank building now occupied by Wegmans grocery store filled MORE has seen various redevelopment over time such as converting into condos/apartments beginning around 2000 however much controversy surrounds it as many people brought there illegally or without permits resultantly impacting soil/water quality/land use etc

Fillmore, the first United States commander of Mexican forces in California during the Mexican-American War. It became an important cultural center for Californians of both political and religious persuasions due to its location at the junction of two major trails that led to the Sacramento Valley and Mexico City. In later years, Fillmore became a popular tourist destination for people from all over California because of its many interesting institutions and historical landmarks, such as the Fillmore Auditorium (now part of UC Berkeley) and theFillmore Hotel (now known as The Regency).
