After a few years, a post office was opened up and many people started sending letters and parcels from their homes to family and friends across the country. By 1903, farmers had founded two churches in Farmersville- one serving as the first Methodist church in California and the other as The Baptist Church of America. In 1907, railroad officials decided to build a new line eastward from Los Angeles into California. They selected Farmersville as one of their locations because it had high population density and wasadjacent to any potential competitors they might encounter on their journey. This decision would later prove beneficial to Farmersville because it made its way into lawmaking by creating what is now known as Section 566 of the federal Code of Federal Regulations. Since 1907, Farmer'sville has seen an influx of immigrants come through its door- most importantly Italians who began arriving after World War II to work on farms throughout Northern California during what is called "the Great Migration." In 1951, when President Harry S Truman signed Executive Order 11085 which declared California an open state for all races without regard to social class or color; farmersVILLE saw its largest influx yet with Italian Americans moving into Farmsville from all over Southern California . Farmersville is a town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 4,868 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1887 by Lorenzo and Clarissa Green as the Green-Anderson Ranch. Farmersville became an incorporated city on December 3, 1907. The name of the town comes from John Fenton's 1847 journal entry that calls it "farmstead on the meadow". The first post office in Farmersville was established in 1865, and the first store opened in 1876. The townsite was patented to Lorenzo Green and Clarissa Anderson on October 26, 1887. Daniel Boone had frequently traveled through Kern County during his lifetime, and he donated land for a railroad station near Farmersville which would serve as a base of operations for his businesses and ranching activities. The townsite was named after him because he had donated $5 to its creation. In 1907, Voters passed an ordinance to change the name of the city to honor local pioneer John Fenton who had fought in both World War I (1914-18) and World War II (1939-45). On December 3, 1907, citizens of Farmersville voted overwhelmingly to become an incorporated city under the new name of "Fenton City." At that time it held a population of only 6 people; however, by 1970 its population had increased to over 50 residents with a strong economy based on agriculture and other outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Farmersville is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Kern County and on the border of Bakersfield and Tulare Counties. The first settlers in Farmersville arrived in 1874 from Illinois. They were farmers who had moved to central California from Iowa. The first post office was established in1875 and named after Captain John Fenton of the US Volunteers (Caltowan County), who had immigrated to California with his family some years earlier. The original Farmersville store was built near what is now its square and it remained open until 1903 when a new store building was constructed next door by J.P. Laughlin & Sons grocery company which became known as Laughlin's Store before it closed in 1978. In 1916, Farmersville hosted its first horse show with thirty horses from twelve states plus Canada under one roof; this event remains the biggest day-long horse show west of the Mississippi River today and has been annually held since that time at the Agricultural Fairgrounds adjacent to Community College District No. 5A which includes Farmersville proper as well as portions of unincorporated Kern County east of Highway 198 south of Vineyard Road, including present-day North Haven Township (which contains much of what is now Farmersville) . In 1925, an agricultural fairgrounds complex consisting four buildings along Highway 198 north of Vineyard Rd., comprising present-day North Haven Township (containing much of what is now Farmersville) , were erected for use by both local farmers and visitors alike during a period when there were no major retail developments within walking distance of any resident or visitor area save for one small general store serving only military personnel stationed nearby on Elmira Road between Guadalupe Hwy./Upper Valley Rd./Valley Rd/Mt Diablo Blvd., northwest corner OF Apple Valley Rd./Pleasant Valley Rd., east side Of Mt Diablo Blvd., northeast corner OF Guadalupe Hwy./Valley Rd.; these agricultural fairgrounds remain extant today as partSCHOOL DISTRICT NO 5A
