A party led by prospector Samuel Morse arrived at Firoozabad on July 25th, 1851 and found two mines but did not find any gold ore. The mining operation at Firoosabad continued until 1865 when all resources had been exhausted due to overspending on exploration! On May 6th, 1861, about 60 men from Stockton came down the Sacramento Valley Railroad from Bidwell Station to founded what would become StocktonTownship (now Stockton). On November 3rd of that year they voted to change their name from Bidwell Township to Fairfield Township! The original townsite consisted of just a few blocks including North Main Street and East South streets with only one store and one post office! On December 12th 1915 Fairfield was struck by an Earthquake measuring 7 Richter Scale which destroyed many homes and businesses including churches and schools leaving more than 100 people homeless for weeks or months! The United States gained independence from Mexico in 1848, and the California Gold Rush began in earnest in1849. In 1860, Fairfield became an incorporated town, and during its early years it prospered as a center for agricultural production and trade. However, following the Panic of 1893,Fairfield lost much of its economic vitality and declined into obscurity until the early 21st century when it experienced a renaissance economy based largely on tourism.
