Rifle stocks in Fairfield, California date back to the early 1800s. The first rifles were designed by Captain John C. Fremont, and were called the “Fremont Rifle”. These rifles were used by the American soldier during the Mexican-American War in 1848. The first rifle stock company in Fairfield was founded in 1851 by Capt. Wm. Hogg and Mr. Elisha Chappell. The company manufactured rifle stocks for use with English guns, which had been imported into America at that time. However, it was not until 1862 that captain Hogg established a rifle stock factory on his own account at 8th Street and Spring Street in Fairfield Township (now part of San Ramon). In 1865, he also founded a gunnery school at 9th and Elm Streets near his factory; this school taught marksmanship to Fairfield citizens who had never fired an artillery piece before. ThisSchool taught such subjects as loading and unloading firearms, sighting devices, fire practice, banding shot etc., which formed the nucleus of modern rifle training methods still followed today by many military forces worldwide! In 1868 Captain Hogg sold his interest in the company to Mr Charles Webley of London who continued to produce rifle stocks under license from captain Hogg until 1871 when he died suddenly without leaving any children behind him! It is interesting to note that three years after captain Hogg’s death (1871), king George V grantedlicque permission for export of arms from England & Ireland through America! Consequently, all former restrictions on exporting rifles etc., lifted!! Fairfield is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 20,643 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of San Bernardino County. The area now known as Fairfield was first settled by the Tongva people in 1800. They named their new settlement after President George Washington's home state of Virginia. In 1851, the town site was patented to James Fenton and it became a part of Rancho San Bernardino de las Pulgas Mexican land grant given to Juan Bautista Altaoco in 1852. The name "Farreill" was chosen because of its similarity to "Farewell," which had been sent by General Santa Anna from Mexico City to Governor Pomeroy in response to his offer for annexation of Californias missions and territory north of the Mexican border. In 1859, Douglas Twiggs surveyed what is now Fairfield and included it on his map as part of Rancho Cucamonga Spanish land grant. A year later, Twiggs sold what became Fairfield Creek (now Riverside Drive) south of present-day downtown Fairfield to James Hutton for $2 per acre ($ in ). According to Twiggs' journal entry for November 1, 1860: " lot #2 east side [of creek] opposite where I stand today". Hutton may have built a small fort here during this time; according to one source he also constructed a mill on stream power near present-day Civic Center Boulevard and El Camino Real Avenue). In 1870, David Dudley bought some nearby parcels from Hutton for $4 per acre ($). Dudley named his new community Brushy Mountain after himself – much like how other early settlers had named their towns elsewhere around the valley such as Yucca Valley (later renamed Victorville), Redondo Beach (later renamed Torrance), and Northridge (later renamed Claremont). Eugene Debs founded Sierra Club in 1912 as an antiwar activist group Opposing World War I based in brushy mountain . In 1916 Debs moved his headquarters from Brushy Mountain into downtown Fairfield when he obtained government housing there . He would remain headquarter until 1978 due largely to Social Security Administration funding that helped finance most suburban development then being offered throughout Southern California through its Community Development Program
