Wegener's Lens was a device that could be used to see in darkness and was very innovative for its time. Fairfield is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, United States. It is the county seat of Fresno County and has a population of 223,951 as of 2010. The city was founded in 1853 by Captain Fairfield and his band of volunteers on land granted to him by Governor Manuel Micheliniere. In 1858, it became part of the newly created Kern County. As a result of its location within easy reach of the Central Valley and its agricultural production, Fairfield became one of California's most important cities for industry. In 1968, it merged with neighboring City of El Centro to form the current city government. The history of Fairfield begins with Captain John Fenton who settled there in 1853 from Kent County, England. He organized a group of volunteers to build up an outpost called Fort Fenton which served as a trading post between missions near Stockton and El Dorado Springs (today's Modesto). On December 17th, 1858, after watching General James Keedy drive off Mexican forces besieging Fort Tejon ammunition wagonloads worth $10,000 at Mount Lookout just east OF town on the south side OF Kern River - activity that set off what would become known as "The War Of The West" - Fenton declared himself provisional governor and began recruiting settlers for his new settlement. By 1861-1862 over 50 homes had been built at Fort Fenton with additional ones being erected throughout the area soon afterwards; however due to lack thereof water power not all structures were completed until 1865 when fairgrounds were constructed nearby on present day First Street & Siskiyou Avenue (now Eastside Blvd.). In March 1865 Captain Fairfield arrived in town from his ranch north central Fresno with 300 troops under command led by Colonel Wm Higginson to survey and begin building what would become called Kern County Courthouse - now known as Old Town Hall - which he named after himself “Fernald” following his donation including land grants totaling 1/5 acre (0.24 km²) located east & northeast corner First Street & Siskiyou Boulevard today’s downtown core – boundedsouthwest by Alamosa Road (& Peralta Avenue), northwest by Chavez Ravine (& I-580), northeast by Broadway (northwest corner Main Streets), east & southeast corner Second Streets today’s Grant Park Corner (east & southeast corners Third streets). A meeting was held on May 14th 1865 where residents voted unanimously to name their new county home “Fernald”replacing Camp Verde [now Chico] where they had camped previous summer while awaiting news from General Kearny about whether they should move westward or split into two counties? However because City Of El Centro was already established adjacent to Fernald proper + 2 other townships within San Joaquin Valley both wanted their piece too + so vote failed 9–3 becoming “Cemetery Township #2” forming eastern edge Arlington Cemetery today Prior To joining otherSan Joaquin Valleycounties in statehood this place rumor has it received special treatment being dubbed “Rancho State Park” but no documentary evidence exists verifying this claim

Fairfield is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, United States. The population was 751,721 at the 2010 census. It is the fifth most populous city in California and the ninth most populous city in America. Fairfield was founded on April 17, 1853 by Captain James Hutton and his wife Mary Ann Hutton. The name "Fairfield" originated from a Native American word meaning "happy valley." The first post office for Fairfield was established on May 14, 1857. On November 6, 1872, the first road through Fairfield was opened when Pacific Telegraph Company's line from San Francisco to Redding crossed town center from east to west. In 1893, Judge John Wickersham donated land to establish City Hall which seating over 100 people. In 1898 an electric light system was installed and in 1902 an ice cream parlor called Cream Palace opened as part of amunity effort to promote downtown retail businesses near City Hall. In 1908–09 Mayor George Nakahara kicked off what would become known as the "City Beautiful Movement" with plans for new parks and boulevards in downtown that were championed by then-Mayor Willis Richardson followed by similar planning efforts throughout 1909 through 1912 under Superintendent of Streets Norton Coleman before finally becoming law in 1913 with passage of Assembly Bill 910 entitled "An Act To Regulate Streetcar Operations." In 1916 Mayor Leland Stanford dedicated five blocks north of Central Avenue between Sixth Street and Seventh Street to provide space for a public library built on land donated by Mrs. Stanford (later president Lyndon B Johnson). That same year also saw construction begin on Golden Gate Park after years of campaigning by Mayor Edwin Channing who had lobbied unsuccessfully for parkland adjacent to University Heights Cemetery whereupon Mrs. Channing organized her neighbors into forming a group known as Friends of Golden Gate Park which spent $3 million acquiring 12 acres (500 m2) just east of City Hall northwest of Interstate Highway 80 within easy accessof Muni transportation facilities thereby establishing what is now bounded upon by Polk Street eastward to Mission Bayou southward thence northward along Lincoln Avenue eastward past State College Boulevard into San Francisco County boundaries; however this parcel including that now bounded upon Polk Street has not been developed at all despite assurances made during government hearings that it would be so; indeed much later another group purchased contiguous property across LBJ Drive from Friends callling themselves developerssandcompletedtheareain1970vegetationsnowbridgeingtheparktoakingspaceforaninterurbanroad). On July 11, 1942 Californian troops invaded Japan without warning or provocation leading to World War II with America declared war against Japan two days later following Germany's invasion of Poland starting World War IIAmerican citizens began internment camps located throughout California pursuant to Executive Order 9066 governing immigration especially Japanese Americans living outside urban areas while Japanese nationals inside Urban Areas were allowed unrestricted travel and labor rights
