In 1875 Edward Cranch discovered gold on the east side of Main Street about one-half mile south of present day downtown Fairfield; this led to new development in what became known as Gold Hill on land donated by George Wickersham (founder of Wickersham Brothers grocery store chain). When it was developed into a city with thousands of people around it during the late 1800s, Gold Hill lost all its importance but some buildings remain such as City Hall and Park Theater which face east on Main Street between Fourth Avenue and Sixth Avenue. In 1916 William Akeley founded Arco Oil Company with his brother Gus Akeley which would later become Arco Petroleum Corporation; soon afterwards he bought out William's shareholding in Arco Oil company for $2 million dollars making him sole owner. Soon after becoming an owner himself he decided to change his name toFairField Energy Corporation after seeing how well energy companies were doing in other states like Texas where he had invested money before moving back East to start his own business again! With oil prices reaching record highs during the 1970s and 1980s ( thanks largely to OPEC) much activity took place at both fairgrounds including concerts by artists like Led Zeppelin, Yes and Cheap Trick etc.; throughout these years also local elected officials such as Mayor Jack Schneider presented awards recognizing excellence within their community while also hosting events like county fair contests among others celebrating various aspects of life in rural America! Finally due largely to draconian environmental regulations put into effect following Superstorm Sandy earlier this year much activity stopped outside of town limits with residents returning home once power was restored! Although softening somewhat since then many things continue unchanged such as bans on big rigs operating off-road along Interstate 5 etc., keeping rural residents tied more closely to their communities than ever!

The history of Fairfield, California can be traced back to the time when it was a small farming community located in what is now Fresno County. In 1847, the Mexican government granted land to twenty-six families who named themselves the "Californios". The Californios were farmers and ranchers who came overland from Mexico looking for new grazing lands. They cleared and built large adobe villages which they called San Bernardino (later known as Riverside) and Santa Clara (later known as Palo Alto). In 1849, following the Mexican-American War, General Antonio López de Santa Anna appointed John Sutter as governor of California. Sutter proclaimed that all farmlands in California would be given to American settlers who would grow crops and build schools. From here on out, Fairfield's history was intertwined with that of Riverside, Palo Alto and San Bernardino counties. In 1870, when Rancho San Lorenzo was granted to John C. Frémont by Governor Pima County president James Kenedy, Fairfield became one of its many townsites. By 1880, numbers in town had grown so large that a school was erected on First Street near today's State Capitol building.During World War II, Fairfield played an important role in the war effort by providing food for military troops stationed in Northern California. Thanks to their production of canned goods such as tuna cans and Jungle Juice concentrate, Fairfield residents helped contribute greatly to wartime morale while also gaining invaluable knowledge about war tactics from local officers and enlisted men. On July 4th 1919Fairfield citizens raised money at a picnic usinggoogle street View technology to fund construction of Veterans Memorial Park west of town center
