On October 30th, 1849, acting Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Cole negotiated with numerous tribes who had relations with both Mexico and California before establishing post at Red Bluff which served as a jumping off place for exploring new territory east of the riverine plain that now includes most of Yosemite National Park

Some notable businesses based in Eureka include Apple Inc., Facebook Inc., Amazon Web Services and Google parent company Alphabet Inc.. The history of Eureka can be traced back to 1854 when James Wolk founded Wolk & Company which involved trading goods with Native Americans along the Sacramento River system. In 1857 Wolk founded another company called Western Union Telegraph Company with assistance from entrepreneur Nicholas-Jacques Conte who had developed telegraphy equipment on an earlier expedition overland from California to Oregon. In 1863 Wolk formed a partnership with underwear manufacturer Gideon Beadle which led to other partnerships including one with photographer George Eastman who shot scenes for American magazines at several locations around town before eventually moving his business into downtown Eureka in 1865. In 1868 dentist Edward Teller moved his dental practice from Albany, New York to nearby Livermore where he met Silas Warner who owned an interest in oil wells located near Sonoma County wine country (now Santa Rosa). Teller convinced Warner to invest $5,000 into his new venture - first name unknown but later changed to "EUREKA" - which would become known as Alcoa Aluminum Corporation (later renamed Alcatel-Lucent). With these initial investments came heavy investment into research and development for new aluminum products including aluminum cans which were successfully marketed as "Auromeres". This early success set off a wave of industrialization throughout Northern California resulting in numerous jobs being created across different sectors including transportation manufacturing paper milling leather tanning meatpacking etc... such as today's Alcoa Aluminum Corporation headquarters building on Battery Street NE corner Washington Street
Eureka, California was founded on September 4, 1851 by John C. Fremont and his brother Edward A. Eastman. The town was named for the discovery of gold in the area. Eureka was incorporated as a city on January 1, 1864.
