As Firearms T-Shirts go, the history of Eureka, California’s Gun Store is quite a bit more interesting than most. The store was founded in 1892 by George W. Hargrave and his wife Annie as a small shop in downtown Eureka. It quickly became one of the leading gun retailers in the area and soon had a large selection of firearms to choose from both new and used. At its peak, the Gun Store had over 100 employees and sold rifles, pistols, shotguns, hunting optics, ammunition and other firearmrelated items to residents of all walks of life. In 1923 however, Hargrave passed away suddenly after many years of business activity; his widow continued operations until her death in 1951. From then on, the store was managed by their son Art Hargrave Jr., who also served as owner emeritus until his death in 1978. During Art’s ownership, there were several major changes at the store including the addition of an outdoor shooting range (which still exists today) as well as expansion into other retail outlets such as a department store chain location in nearby Walnut Creek (now part of Buena Park). In recent years however,Gun Store has been slowly but surely slipping into obscurity with only occasional mentions online or in local journalism. That may be changing though thanks to some enterprising individuals who are currently campaigning to bring back what could be seen as one of California’s most iconic businesses – Gun Store T-Shirts! The first t-shirt design was made by Harry Schaefer which featured a NRA seal & “gun safe” door handle! A few months later they added an image side view rifle while continuing to sell handguns only! Eventually they started selling rifles too! In 1893 they opened up their own building which housed both their main office (& retail space) along with 2 storage sheds (~9'x6') next door for additional sales & storage locations…..and finally ~8'x4') off 5th Street….making it one legit gun store complex!! art hargrave jr took over when dad passed away…..in 1951 he also bought out ww2 veteran coleman cooley….the 2nd biggest gun dealer east OF los angeles……..in1978 art hargrive Jr died sudden leaving operation continously run by son david until his death last year!!!!! now it is being run by grandson david jameson Sr!!!!!!!

In 1907, The Pistolero Shirt Company was founded by Manuel Gomez and Harry W. Fewell with the goal of bringing firearms into the public eye. In 1935, The Gun Shop began selling firearms t-shirts and in 1951 they opened their own store called "The Firearms Emporium." In 1970, the shop moved to its current location at 2163 Main Street and continued to sell firearms until it closed in 1990.
Eureka, California is an unincorporated community in Humboldt County, California, United States. It lies north-northwest of Redding and east of Arcata. The population was 433 at the 2010 census. Eureka is named for John H. Eurek, a pioneering American mathematician and physicist who worked on radar and radio technology there in the early 20th century. The first Europeans to visit the area were Jedediah Smith and his party in 1807. They found a small stream flowing southwest from Mount Shasta and named it "Eureka." A large hill on which the community now stands was called "Mountain Meadows" by Smith because he thought its height would make it difficult for Indian traders to travel over it. A flour mill was built near what is now downtown Eureka in 1858 by James Wickersham as part of his efforts to get settlers moving into his new location. By 1861, three other mills had been built in what is now downtown Eureka: the Post Mill (1862), the Central Mill (1863), and the North Pacific Mills (1865). The first store opened in 1865; this was soon followed by a hotel/motel and several agricultural businesses before becoming an industrial center with lead smelting, shipbuilding, mining, lumbering, cattle ranching, cotton ginning, shoe manufacturing, etc., starting around 1880. In 1907–08 local schoolchildren founded their own high school - Alma Mater Elementary School - just south of town limits on Alma Street between Second Street East and Third Street East. In 1933 Mayor Earl Warren proposed that allName sake places within city limits be given one name only - Eureka - then rename all remaining municipal buildings accordingly including streets connecting them such as 4th Avenue West from Main Street South to State Route 299 North; 5th Avenue West from State Route 299 North to First Street South; 7th Avenue West from First Street South to State Route 299 North; 8th Avenue West from State Route 299 North to FourthStreetEast; 9th StreetsSouthWestfromFirstStreetSouthtoStateRoute299Northand10(Alma) streetsSouthWestfromFourthStreetEasttoFirstStreetSouthwere also designated as governmental districts within city limits under Warren's proposal known as "DowntownEUREKA District". A post office operated at Eureka until 1903 when it became part of Redding; during World War II it served as Redding's military airfield supply depot until 1945 when that function moved indoors inside Redding Airport. DowntownEUREKA District eventually grew too large for government services being offered within its boundaries soWarren proposal died without ever being fully implemented however many public works projects still remain ongoing within DowntownEUREKA District such asnew light towers constructed along Eighth Avenue West outside City Hall since 2007 while another new project underway nears completion adjacent thereto known asthe Big Store redevelopment project which will add up to 100 retail jobs plus additional housing units once completed

Eureka, California was founded on October 30, 1854 by William F. Hutton and John C. Frémont as a small town in the corner of Butte and Siskiyou counties. The name Eureka is from the ancient Greek word σερευκανία (sirexippia), meaning "the discovery of oil." The town was named for two Hawaiian goddesses who had been seen near the site where gold was discovered in 1848. In 1862, after years of exploration, Hutton and Frémont found oil at Siskiyou County's Gold Hill. On December 8 of that year, they published a report announcing their find and naming the area Eureka after Ἡρώματος (euromatos), or "oil field." They also erected a wooden sign reading "Eureka Gold Hill" to indicate the location. The first production from the oil well at Gold Hill began in 1865; within a few years it had become one of California's largest producers. By 1868, it was producing 10 million barrels per day (bpd). In 1870–71, production increased to 25 million bpd; but due to strikes by miners in nearby Nevada, this output stopped short of $1 million that Fresnel estimated would have been possible if no strikes had occurred. In 1872–73, production reached 50 million bpd but then fell back because competition from neighboring states increased Output restrictions imposed by President Ulysses S. Grant led to decreased output until 1890 when new production facilities were built at credo water level off Interstate 5 near Stockton . By 1890 there were over 1 million people living in Eureka with an economy that depended mainly on agriculture and ranching activities: 73%of all workers were farmers or ranchers while 23%were engaged in manufacturing or service businesses such as grocery stores and schools
Eureka was founded by John C. Fremont in 1847 as a small town in southeastern California. The towns of Susanville and Eureka Junction were founded soon after, and the area now includes the cities of Eureka and Susanville. In 1849, the first post office was established in Eureka. It was officially renamed San Francisco on February 14th, 1850. The first store in what is now downtown Eureka opened in 1851. By 1860, there were over 50 businesses operating in downtown Eureka. The population of Eureka peaked at around 150 residents in 1870, but gradually declined until it reached its low point around 1910 with just 15 residents remaining. In 1916, the city annexed the neighboring town of Susanville which had been part of Mexican territory for many years prior to that.
