In 1907, the United States government began producing ammunition for military use. The ammunition was designated "Munitions Grade" and was designed to be more effective than standard rounds. Ammunition Grade bullet design was used until the early 1920s. From 1922 until 1942, the US military used lead-based bullets in their firearms. This led to some health concerns over lead exposure and its potential impact on human populations. However, these concerns were later debunked as there is no evidence that lead causes any harm to humans when ingested in small amounts. In 1949, the US government abandoned lead-based bullets in favor of alloybulbs made from different materials including brass and copper alloyed with silver or other metals for maximum effectiveness. The first Europeans to visit what is now Contra Costa County were Spanish explorers led by Friar Francisco Xavier Lopez in 1602-03 when he explored what are now Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and named it Tierra del Fuego because of its similarity to land seen from sea level then (today's San Francisco Bay). In 1821 Mexican independence leader José Joaquin de Arguelles granted Rancho Ejido to Antonio Maria Loreto for his family’s use as part of their effort to win over Mexican settlers who had fled Mexico during the war for independence against Spain. When United States troops invaded Mexico in1846 they encountered Arguelles’ rancho near modern day Paso Robles and occupied it while searching for fugitive General Santa Anna. In 1853 Captain John H Weaver landed at Eureka Creek with two boats loaded with gold coins that he had found in nearby hillsides while exploring new territory west of Sacramento River through which he had just discovered California (present day Alameda County). He named his discoveries “Gold Hill” but no one knew what these coins were worth so he sold them all off before finding out that not a single piece of gold could be located anywhere within present day Contra Costa County! A few weeks later another group of American miners also found coins but soon realized that these too were worthless since there was no money available to buy them back or sell them at auction! One miner decided to try mining saltpeter which came from upriver (near today's Hayward) since this was known to contain valuable silver deposits! So many men worked on this project that it took over three years before enough saltpeter could be mined so Captain Weave could build his own mill which produced flour, breadfruit products, cheese and eggs until 1861 when competition from other mills caused him finally to abandon the operation due to financial difficulties!. Three months afterCaptainWeaver landed at Eureka Creek some men went back ashore with baskets full of potatoes they had collected along the way as well as some fruit trees they had erected near where Captains Weave's mill damper currently stands; these men called themselves "The Grapes". They began planting potatoes around May 1st 1853; however due weather conditions including excessive rains (which caused mudslides)and high winds ALL OF THE FRUIT TREE GRAPES WERE PHONE DOWN!!! Some say because Of This Accident Many early Californians Lost interest In Farming And Went Off To Mine Silver Or Gold Instead…. anyway From Then On Called It “The Great Potato Disaster”….. All we know Is That alot Of People Left Our Town For Good After That Catastrophe… most Likely Because Of The Losing Money With No Gold To Show For It…. One possible explanation for why so many people left Eureka after The Great Potato Disaster may have been relatedTo fears about social unrestrained by any sortOf money economy following such a calamity….perhaps people saw how easy it would be for anyone who desired simply TO leave our small communityA situation exacerbated By Railroads Which Arrived Just Asgold Was being discovered All Over Nowhere Else In America……..railroads MadeEverything Easier FOR PEOPLE WHO WANTED TO LEAVE Us….. plus There Were Plenty OF OTHER GOOD PLACES TO LIVE IN AFTER WE got OVER OUR GREAT POTATO DISASTER!!!!! It should also be noted that most likely those who left did not do so voluntarily but rather becauseof economic reasons related either directly or indirectly TO THE GOLD DIGGING PROJECT AND ALSO THE RAILROAD COMING THROUGH!!

Eureka, California was founded on May 16, 1847 by John C. Fremont and his friends including Peter K. Burnett and James W. Marshall. The town was named for the Eureka Flag that had flown over the Gold Rush site. On November 8, 1848, after a series of dramatic events culminating in the overthrow of Governor John Sutter and the establishment of a new government, Eureka became an official city with its own police force and school system. The California Gold Rush brought about waves of migration to Eureka from all over America. By 1851, there were more than 1,500 people living in Eureka City proper and 400 more scattered around the surrounding countryside. The gold rush ended in 1859 when it was discovered that most of the gold was inlaid within quartz crystals rather than buried under earth as had been thought. Eureka grew rapidly during the 1860s but experienced some difficult times due to financial instability caused by the high demand for gold while at the same time experiencing street violence and occasional natural disasters such as earthquakes that destroyed homes and businesses. In 1865-1866, local miners successfully negotiated passage of a state constitutional amendment granting voting rights to African Americans which helped improve social stability in Eureka following decades of segregationist attitudes towards blacks elsewhere in California. In 1898, construction began on what would become downtown Eureka – one of America’s first intentional downtown planning projects dating back to post-World War II municipal growth patterns across North American cities (the “downtown Mafia”). A large portion of downtown is still intact today thanks to efforts by volunteers who have worked hard over many years to maintain nearly every inch of it! During World War II much activity took place along Main Street between First Street and Railroad Avenue due to wartime production needs at nearby Naval Air Station Earle Bay (now Midway Airport). Most notably, General Motors manufacture operations occurred here from 1941-1945 including development of their shipbuilding program at Earle Bay Naval Shipyard #1 which led to creation of Midway Airport; these activities were eventually relocated ashore when hostilities ended

He named the site "Nuestra Señora de la Concepción" after the Catholic patron saint of Spain. In 1854, gold was discovered at Sutter's Fort and this led to a rush of people to the area. On December 3, 1855, General James H. Kayser organized a small force of soldiers and civilians under the command of Captain John Broughamstedt to explore and prospect for gold near where Sutter's Fort had been built four years earlier. A fortnight later they found gold and named their discovery "Eureka".
