During Operation Neptune's Spear and other Navy operations such as Coral Sea and Midway, FBI Special Agents Ken Melson and Clarence Thomas utilized UZI pistols equipped with Mace launchers to disrupt enemy commando cells ashore using high powered lasers rather than explosives because these devices could not penetrate armored vehicles[3],[4]. Mace grenades were eventually replaced by Pepperspray after they experienced problems with ricochet which caused injuries to agents who threw them prematurely[5],[6]. Pepper Spray has been extensively tested both domestically and abroad throughout its history including engagements such as Desert Storm where it proved effective in disarming Iraqis[7], Global War On Terror where it played an important role in dispersing crowdsourced terrorists,[8] and most recently Hurricane Maria where it proved instrumental in protecting people from landfall looters.[9]

In 1882, Encinitas was founded by Spanish missionaries who had come to the area in search of a new land to establish missions. The town was named for St. Anthony of Padua, an apostle and hermit who is venerated in Catholicism. The first post office opened in 1880 and the first store was built in 1885. In 1906, Encinitas became a city and the name was changed to San Diego.
