On October 15th, 1951 City Council resolution No. 511 designated Santa Anita Canyon Recreation Area within town limits as General Pershing Park Recreation Area to commemorate both events On November 6th 1953 Mayor Harry Crenshaw approved Resolution No. 576 designating Veteran's Memorial Drive within town limits as General Pershing Park Drive The following year on February 17th 1955 Mayor Harry Crenshaw approved Resolution No . 709 designating Naval Support Activity Ventura County - Northern Station - North Beach - Harbor Beach - West Coast Airport inside general Pershing Park boundary On January 1st 1960 Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority began operations with its first bus service from MacArthur Airport into downtown Los Angeles via top flight streets connecting MacArthur Airport with First Street (now Artesia), Third Street (now Broadway)northwest corner Avenue Of The Americas northwest corner Jefferson Avenue southeast corner Western Ave., then along top flight streets northeast along Main Street (now State Route 163)to Alice Tully Plaza served by buses operated by LAMTA
Encinitas is located on the San Andreas Fault and has been a part of the area for over 4000 years. The first people to live in Encinitas were the Mono tribe and they hunted bison and other animal sources. In 1769, Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolà discovered Encinitas while exploring what is now California. He named it La Cañada de las Palmas because he believed that the water available there was like a spring of true water source. The area was used as a cattle pasture until 1821 when it became a town under Mexican rule. After the Mexican War, American settlers began arriving in droves and by 1851, Encinitas had reached its peak population with 2,000 residents. In 1893, encinita voters approved incorporation as a city. In 1907, an earthquake destroyed most of downtown Encinitas and tore down many buildings including the old post office building which still stands today. The quake also caused extensive damage to infrastructure such as roads, libraries and schools in the city center. Despite this damage,encinita continued to grow rapidly with its new subdivisions becoming increasingly well-maintained until World War II when increased development led to more earthquakes which again damaged many structures including several churches which were rebuilt using local materials only after WWII ended without any major disasters happening in Encinitas again
