Today's Elmwood Village Shopping Center/Parkside is located adjacent to what used to be Elkhorn Oil Refinery; this refinery closed down on January 2nd, 2009 due to environmental concerns about reports of carcinogens emitted from its facility (see article). Elk Grove also has several smaller businesses located throughout its central business district: A&W Barbecue Restaurants (formerly known as Arby's), Burger King, Cottonwood Coffee & Tea Lounge, Health food store Sprouts Farmers Market and Dunkin' Donuts which opened up shop inside Walmart on May 8th 2006 In addition there are numerous restaurants clustered around Interstate 5 including Red Lobster (formercanonical restaurant), Blue Bottle Brewery (&rewBrewing Co.), Olive Garden Steakhouse & Pizza Place etc... There are several parks scattered throughout downtown including Willow Glen Park(largest park in town) Zoo offers educational/themed exhibits like pandas and gorillas while La Mirada High School offers classes leading up to golf tournaments held at nearby Newport Beach Country Club

In 2000, it again became part of Contra Costa County when its portion of Alameda County was divided into two parts. ElkGrove has experienced many dramatic changes over its history including becoming one of America's most diverse metropolitan areas with more than 30 languages spoken here fluently; experiencing rapid growth during World War II as homespun production industries sprang up around defense plants; witnessing decline during the 1970s as high-tech industry moved into neighboring cities; and seeing recent progress during both the 1990s throughurban renewal and Measure B which restored downtown streetscape; boulevard reformation resulting in increased pedestrian activity on major streetscapes throughout town center
