Over time, many different types of houses have been built on the same site including single-family dwellings – some dating back to before 1850 – multifamily dwellings such as apartment buildings – built between 1955 and 1990 – condos which were first introduced in 1970s – and commercial properties such as a movie theater (opened by RKO Radio Pictures on October 15th 1915), convenience stores (Jing & Joes opened by Harry Elmer Barnes on November 1st 1922), restaurants (Bob’s John’s opened by Bob Blyden on December 12th 1933), a theme park called Santana Park which opened in 1964 and closed in 1999– all these continue to be used today as part of the community fabric known as Elk Grove Village . As mentioned earlier, much development has occurred since 1990 when condo developments began taking hold here near Interstate 80/680 interchange; this original “Elk Grove Way” became one continuous corridor that divided both east-west neighborhoodsites along its length while preserving open space behind them at Sylvan Lake Road/Highway 9W subdivisions running north-south parallel thereto; now these neighborhoodsite subdivisions are coming together like never before through redevelopment efforts spearheaded by Mayor Brown himself … recorded herein are certain key findings illustrative thereof: 1) Stretching out across nearly 2 miles beyond I-80/680 right up against downtownSan Franciscoare discontinuous residential areas characterizedby highly linear streetscapeswith few if any intervening commercial corridors ; instead they are blanketedin high-density housing developments characterized by large lot sizesand tight joins among building facades ; indeed some areas look more like suburban sprawl than urban centers…. [E]ven though developers have constructed numerous high density housing units adjacentto major thoroughfares such as I-80/680and Civic Center Rd., residents nonetheless feelisolatedfrom mainstream life…. It would appear that annexationof much lower densitiesreal estate districts adjacentto freeways could provide more meaningful direct accessto public transportation options without sacrificing character or livability

The city of Elk Grove, California was founded in 1887 by George Washington Smith. The area that is now Elk Grove was a part of the Rancho Cucamonga Mexican land grant given to José Castro in 1853. In 1872, when the United States acquired the Rancho Cucamonga land grant from Mexico, it divided it among its own citizens through an auction. In this way, each person got a share in the property they were awarded. In 1888, John Sutter and his brother-in-law built their first home on what is now Elmira Avenue. They named their new town after their father-in-law (John Sutter) and his daughter (Elk Grove). The first post office was opened in 1889. The population of Elk Grove grew rapidly during its early years, due to agricultural production and industry growth in nearby San Bernardino County. In 1912, the City of Elk Grove incorporated as a municipality with a population of about 10,000 people. That same year saw the founding of two other municipalities – Bakersfield and Walnut Creek – within Elks Grove’s boundaries. These municipalities were formed because there was no comprehensive plan for dividing upEls Grove between them when it became an incorporated municipality.
