Elk Grove is a city in Contra Costa County, California, located just east of Oakland. The population was 64,431 at the 2010 census. Elk Grove is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the United States. The city was founded in 1887 by fur buyers from Canada who bought land near Lake Merritt. The citizens of Elk Grove were organized into wards in 1892 and again in 1914. According to the 2010 census, the racial makeup of Elk Grove was 87% White, 5% Black or African American, 1% Native American/Alaskan Native, 2% Asian, 0% Pacific Islander and 3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino residents (of any race) make up 12% of the population. The history of this unique city can be traced back to 1887 when fur buyers from Canada landed at what is now known as Point Richmond on Lake Merritt and began looking for land to build homes on. They soon realized that they needed a place where they could sell their goods and put their money back into society instead of wasting it all away on gambling debts or luxury items like cars and boats. So they started trading with native people hereabouts and put down roots as a community called "The Natives." After years of hard work buying land and making sure that his new community would thrive, John Pemberton became mayoralty candidate in 1916 but lost to Mayor George Eastman because he didn't have enough white votes - an important factor then given that most mayors were elected throughamanage contests between two candidates who had strong support from within their Party families (in this case Pemberton's political family). A year later when World War I broke out Pemberton decided to stay home rather than go off to fight but his wife did anyway pack her bags ready for their two young children – ages 10 months old Pauline and 4 years old Harold – plus three cows worth $240 each onto a train headed eastward across country while she took care of business back home at Point Richmond. With only six days notice John received word via telegraph that he'd been drafted into the war effort so he had no choice but to leave his beautiful home behind with his kids and cows! About 100 other local businesses also followed suit including many farmers who supplies ammunition for soldiers fighting overseas; these entrepreneurs suddenly found themselves without customers when war ended less than three months later due largely to regulations introduced by President Woodrow Wilson which prohibited exports of munitions made in America during its wartime period! Elk Grove is a small town in Southern California, located about 30 miles south of Los Angeles. The population was 31,541 at the 2000 census. It was founded in 1876 by John C. Elk, a rancher and farmer from Oregon. The name "Elk Grove" is derived from the forest where the town stands and from an ancient Sauvignon Blanc wine grape that grew there. The first post office was established in 1876, and the first store opened in 1880. In 1886, Elk Grove became part of San Bernardino County. The population increased rapidly following World War I when many farmers migrated to the area to work on new farms or sell their old ones. The post office closed in 1922 and the last sale took place in 1934. The townsite was annexed by Los Angeles in 1959 and has since experienced rapid growth due to its location close to Interstate 5 and other major highways. Elmhurst Drive, which runs through town center, has been called "the Avenue of Dearborns." Many high-end homes were built during this time as well as several shopping malls which have since been replaced by newer development. During 2009-2010 Elk Grove experienced a significant outbreak of SARS coronavirus which caused extensive property damage including loss of many trees and power outages throughout the community for over two weeks!
